SolidWorks Software Opens New Doors to Design Creativity, Faster Time to Market for Giesse

Giesse Industrial Group, one of Europe's largest manufacturers of metal frames and fittings for aluminum products used in windows and doors, has standardized on SolidWorks ® 3D mechanical design and COSMOSXpressT design analysis software to accelerate product development and time to market.

Based in Bologna, Italy, Giesse makes window components and other mechanisms for opening and closing windows and doors in the home and office. Since 1965, the company has built a reputation for innovating new solutions to help end users make the most of their door and window spaces. Giesse chose SolidWorks to accelerate new product design. The software's intuitive user interface, flexibility, and ease of use allow engineers to quickly explore a variety of design options.

"SolidWorks lets us capitalize on time-to-market speed," said Mark Lambertini, president of Giesse. "The software allows us to complete complex design steps in just a couple of mouse clicks, rather than force us into a complicated process that takes hours to finish. That kind of design speed allows our engineers to introduce better product innovations faster, helping us build on our market leadership."

SolidWorks also reduces Giesse's product development time by automating engineering changes throughout the design, rather than forcing engineers to re-draw a design from the beginning with each change. After using the software for only two months, Giesse has reduced design change time by 15 percent.

Giesse also uses the COSMOSXpress design validation tool to ensure design accuracy before manufacturing begins. Combined with SolidWorks 3D mechanical design software, COSMOSXpress gives Giesse the structural calculation and bench measurements needed to reduce the time and expense of prototyping.

"In Giesse's market, differentiation hinges upon design innovation and aesthetics as well as function," said Michel Gros, SolidWorks' executive vice president of Europe. "SolidWorks delivers the flexibility, functionality, and speed to enable Giesse engineers to maximize their creativity and start new interior fashion trends while accelerating time to market."

Giesse relies on SolidWorks reseller Nuovamacut Automation SpA for ongoing software training, implementation, and support.

GSG International S.p.A. is a leading player on the international stage for the research, design, production, and marketing of manual and automatic solutions for openings and closures. In almost 40 years of business, Giesse has grown from a small crafts firm to a recognized international holding company that is a leader in the sector, with billings of more than 100 million euros (approximately $123 million) in 2002. Growing continuously, the company now has 534 employees, more than 8,000 products in its catalog, and more than 100 patents. The Giesse Industrial Group has a presence in the world's major countries, with three production sites in Italy, Spain, and Argentina, and subsidiaries in the United Kingdom, France, Greece, the Middle East, and the Far East. It also has a close-knit worldwide organization of official distributors.
