CEI Set to Release Major EnSight Revision
CEI is preparing to release a major new revision of its EnSight software, with a more intuitive GUI, dozens of new features, more direct readers, and additional lighting and special effects. EnSight 8 is scheduled for release in December.
Improvements in EnSight 8 were developed based on CEI's extensive investigation of other leading CAE tools, input from CEI's worldwide sales organization, and hundreds of suggestions from customers.
The EnSight GUI includes new icons that provide easier access to advanced functions and parts list menus that reduce the number of mouse clicks needed to perform common tasks. A dialog box controls not only color, but also provides sliders to adjust transparency, shading and lighting parameters. A new VCR-like interface automatically plays a flipbook animation after loading.
Data loading and exchange has become much easier in EnSight 8. The new GUI automatically recognizes and loads files from major solvers with a click of a mouse button. EnSight 8 includes new direct readers for Fluent, Abaqus, Magma, ANSYS, Kiva and Permas Bif/Bof. Also new are MSC.Adams-to-EnSight and MSC.Patran-to-EnSight exporters.
Users can create more visually realistic scenes in EnSight 8 with new features such as ray tracing, control of positioning for a second light source, and the ability to display a bitmap image in the background.
Other new features in EnSight 8 include:
• animation recording that eliminates the need for keyframe animation when creating streamline and pathline movies;
• improved MPEG and AVI output, and the ability to embed in PowerPoint;
• menus to set mouse and keyboard preferences;
• new element visual representations, including 3D Feature/2D Full and 3D NonVisual/ 2D Full;
• view tracking in different viewports and fixed to a moving model;
• subset part selection, part grouping options, and smart defaults for part creation; and
• failed element features.
