Sun Expands Global Partnership with SAP to Grow Solaris Market and Drive Flexibility in the Enterprise; mySAP Business Suite and SAP NetWeaver to Support Solaris 10; Sun Selects SAP xApp Resource and Portfolio Management to Help Run its R&D and IT Portfolios

Sun Microsystems, Inc . announced an expansion of their relationship with SAP AG aimed at enabling leading enterprises to strategically transform their businesses to meet rapidly changing customer demands. Under terms of the expanded alliance, SAP will port mySAPT Business Suite and SAP NetWeaverT to the SolarisT 10 Operating System (OS).

"Today's announcement represents SAP's innovation in delivering best-in- class solutions for enterprises leveraging Sun Solaris 10," said Carlos Chou, senior vice president of alliances, SAP America, Inc. "As Sun Microsystems delivers Solaris 10 across multiple platforms, SAP will be a key enabler for customers -- driving efficiencies and productivity and revolutionizing the total cost of ownership for information technology and business operations."

Sun also announced that it has formally signed a contract to deploy SAP® xAppT Resource and Portfolio Management (SAP xRPM) to increase the value of Sun's R&D and IT portfolios. Powered by SAP NetWeaver, SAP xRPM is a packaged composite application that readily integrates information from non-SAP backend systems alike -- a critical requirement for the heterogeneous application landscape at Sun. Utilizing SAP xRPM on Solaris 10 will enable Sun to optimize strategic project decision making, facilitate best practices at all three levels of project governance and benefit from Global Six Sigma project and resource management.

This announcement further enhances the alliance Sun and SAP bring to organizations around the globe. For instance, Sun and SAP have been collaborating on the integration of the Sun JavaT Enterprise System with SAP NetWeaver. Sun also recently opened two technology centers in Walldorf, Germany that support SAP solution integratio-the Sun Excellence Center for SAP NetWeaver, and the Sun and SAP Joint Java Technology Center, housed in the Sun iForce(SM) Solution Center for SAP.
