Sun Microsystems Inc. announced at its Network Computing '04Q4 launch that its partners and independent software vendors (ISVs) publicly support the launch of the SolarisT 10 Operating System (OS). BEA Systems, Inc.; BMC Software, Inc.; Computer Associates, Inc.; EDS; EMC; Oracle; PeopleSoft, Inc.; SAP AG; and VERITAS Software are a few of the hundreds of industry leading solution vendors that provide, or have committed to provide, superior application performance based on the Solaris 10 OS.

Additionally, Sun announced its "Ten Moves Ahead" initiative that will expand the growing ecosystem of partners ready to embrace the Solaris 10 OS. The purpose of this program is to provide participants with technical, marketing, and sales support to help make delivering resources to customers easier and more profitable. In addition, Sun's Ten Moves Ahead program will help ISVs lower the cost of development and deployment of business applications that use the Solaris 10 OS.

"The Solaris 10 ecosystem is vibrant, robust and complete. It's a huge opportunity for partners to make money. They see the customer demand and are flocking to Solaris as a new platform for development," said Jonathan Schwartz, president and chief operating officer, Sun Microsystems, Inc. "And our customers can rest assured that the solutions they need will be supported. Since announcing our early access program, we're literally signing on a new partner every ten minutes."

"VERITAS' continued support of the Solaris 10 OS on both SPARC® and x86 platforms and Sun's decision to expand its already significant commitment to VERITAS data protection and storage foundation solutions represents a win for customers and a win for each company -- particularly in key industries such as financial services," said Mark Bregman, chief technology officer, VERITAS Software. "With the collective strength of our partnership and our established track record among the Global 2000, VERITAS and Sun are uniquely positioned to deliver customers a high-performance, scalable infrastructure while simultaneously lowering operating costs."

"As the leading provider of mission critical business intelligence solutions, SAS understands the enterprise needs of our user community," said Paul Kent, vice president, Research & Development, SAS. "Solaris has a strong track record for maintaining upward binary compatibility between SAS product releases; providing the foundation for an extremely robust development platform, translating directly to lower development, testing and deployment costs. With the release of Solaris 10, Sun has once again delivered the kind of state-of-the-art technology that is both invaluable and compelling to SAS and our customers. The Solaris 10 OS new Dynamic Tracing tool provides quick response functionality to analyze and diagnose problems and facilitates the rich application environment necessary to meet our complex and demanding customer requirements."
