Rheinmetall Taps Agile PLM to Ensure On-Time Delivery of High Quality Products

Agile Software Corporation announced that Rheinmetall has successfully deployed the Agile e5 PLM solution, enabling the company to streamline their product development processes and to ensure that their products meet quality and compliance standards.

"Using a rigorous benchmarking process, we evaluated several vendors' PLM offerings before deciding that the Agile e5 PLM solution was by far the most flexible and therefore most capable of meeting our needs," said Hartmut Hahn, CIO, Rheinmetall Land Systems division of Rheinmetall Defense Technologies (Rheinmetall DeTec AG). "Rheinmetall serves a global military customer base, and Agile PLM plays a vital role in ensuring that our products are developed on-schedule and to precise customer specifications, while meeting stringent quality and compliance standards."

Within the Rheinmetall DeTec Group, Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH is a leading European systems company that develops and manufactures armored, wheeled and tracked vehicles, as well as turret systems and weapon stations. Its decision to implement product lifecycle management was prompted by the need to shorten cycle times associated with new product introduction and release.

Agile's PLM system is deployed throughout Rheinmetall Landsysteme's business operations, including electrical and mechanical construction, manufacturing, and quality assurance. The Agile implementation required interfacing with several business-critical systems such as SAP, as well as various CAD software packages like ProENGINEER. This integration enables a single enterprise product record that captures a product's complete lifecycle -- which, in Rheinmetall's case, can last up to forty years -- and greatly simplifies processes such as engineering change management and document management, which can now be handled centrally within the Agile system.

"Rheinmetall holds a distinguished place in the German manufacturing industry and we are pleased to have been selected to bring them the advantages of PLM," said Jay Fulcher, Agile COO. "Rheinmetall's strategic product portfolio has earned it leadership status over many years, and as the company continues to innovate for the future, PLM will be an important asset towards guarding their leadership position."
