Cadence Joins with IBM to Launch Power.org
Cadence Design Systems, Inc. announced its collaboration with IBM to launch Power.org, an open standards community that will help IC designers develop system-on-chips (SoCs) using the IBM PowerPC Architecture. Power.org is dedicated to promoting the IBM PowerPC Architecture as the preferred open-standard hardware-development platform for electronic systems for markets such as consumer electronics, networking, storage, military and automotive.
As part of its ongoing work with IBM, Cadence has developed a SoC reference design methodology around the PowerPC Architecture using the Cadence® EncounterT digital IC design platform. Cadence has also developed for leading foundries a process-portable version of the PowerPC 440 core that has been validated on the TSMC 130-LV manufacturing process. To assist PowerPC customers in their design efforts, Cadence is providing worldwide technical-support services designed to support customers with PowerPC performance, architectural features, SoC integration and foundry flows.
"We are pleased that Cadence has become a founding member of Power.org.," said Jesse Stein, Power Marketing Programs Manager, IBM Systems & Technology Group. "Their expertise in design tools and methodologies, combined with their knowledge of the PowerPC Architecture, will accelerate the growth of Power.org. In addition, Cadence and IBM have already taken the first step in validating the openness of the PowerPC Architecture by hardening a PowerPC-based design to other leading foundry processes."
"Cadence has worked closely for over two years with IBM in support of the PowerPC Architecture, and continues that commitment as a founding member of Power.org," said Jan Willis, senior vice president of industry marketing at Cadence. "We believe that truly open standards, proven flows and industry alliances are essential to tightly integrate the design chain for customer success. Accordingly, Cadence is prepared to support the needs of designers using the PowerPC Architecture with validated reference design flows, together with engineering services, on a worldwide basis."
