Intergraph Ships SmartPlant Electrical 3.0

Intergraph Corporation is shipping SmartPlant® Electrical 3.0, the intelligent software for electrical engineering in the process, power and marine industries. The new 3.0 version features improved cable management, enhanced engineering functions and new drawing options designed to cut schedules and increase electrical distribution system reliability and safety. SmartPlant Electrical ( http://ppm.intergraph.com/electrical ) is the data-centric, integrated package for design engineering, construction, maintenance and operation of plant and offshore platform electrical distribution systems.

Engineers can now reduce waste and increase engineering accuracy with a number of new cable management features. Automatically optimized cable-to-drum association assigns cables to drums based on pulling areas and predefined attributes. Cables can be organized and segregated by voltage level. Cable sizing calculations enable optimal design through length and load. Engineers can also create cableways and assign cableway trays or conduit. The new cable management features are supported by cable routing reports with tray fill validation including space and weight fill factors.

Engineering enhancements in SmartPlant Electrical 3.0 include load balancing tools along with metering and protective relay equipment capabilities. To help optimize load distribution across distribution panels, engineers can move loads from bus to bus while monitoring the total bus-connected load. For more accurate design, engineers can create and define ranges and protection settings of transformers, multi-function protective relays and a variety of online metering devices including voltmeters and ammeters.

Engineers can insert additional devices on the automatically-generated single line diagram and save these to the project database for subsequent reference. To help make diagrams more readily understandable, users can specify the number of feeder circuits connected to one consecutive bus. Users can also embed an external drawing of any major CAD format into a drawing, associate the drawing with the particular device and manage revisions.

SmartPlant Electrical ( http://ppm.intergraph.com/smartplant/electrical ) reduces engineering costs through once-only data entry, information sharing, re-use and propagation throughout the facility life. For electrical engineers, the software helps increase productivity through better quality, more accurate and consistent data. SmartPlant Electrical automatically generates schematics and single line diagrams in addition to handling standard and custom tabular reports such as electrical equipment, consumer and cable lists, load summaries and wiring. An alternative to in-house software, the data-centric SmartPlant Electrical does not require a CAD package.

For transient and other analyses, SmartPlant Electrical offers integration with EDSA Micro Corporation EDSA and Operation Technology Inc. ETAP power system analysis software. Integration supports engineering decisions and helps engineers create more reliable designs. The analysis software provides transient and load flow, cable sizing, voltage drop and a variety of other analyses.

SmartPlant Electrical runs stand alone or as client-server on Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP operating systems and uses Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle database software.
