CIMdata in the News:   Is collaboration the key?

The forecast for PLM investments is positive, according to a PLM market analysis report by CIMdata. "The 2003 overall PLM market grew by 4 percent over 2002 to approximately $14 billion," says Ken Amann, CIMdata director of research. "Of that, approximately 67 percent or $9.5 billion was invested in Authoring and Analysis Tools while 33 percent of $4.6 billion was invested in collaborative Product Definition management (cPDm)."CIMdata defines Authoring and Analysis Tools as the primary design authoring tools such as mechanical and electronic computer-aided design (MCAD and ECAD), computer-aided software engineering (CASE), and technical publishing. cPDm products are focused on collaboration, management, and sharing of product related information. Although the investment in Authoring and Analysis Tools was larger, investment in cPDm increased more rapidly in 2003 compared to 2002..

CIMdata predicts that the PLM market as a whole is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 8 percent to exceed $20 billion by the year 2008.
