CIMdata Announces its 2005 PLM Vendor Forum Program: "Business Integrated PLM-Realizing the Vision"
Consulting and research firm CIMdata, Inc. announces its 2005 PLM Vendor Forum schedule and program. These international one-day events will be held in Detroit, Michigan, USA on March 31st, in Stuttgart, Germany on April 21st, and in Tokyo, Japan on April 26th, 2005. The Vendor Forums bring together the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) technology and service suppliers to discuss the overall PLM industry and trends affecting it, look back at its performance in the preceding year, and explore its future as the essential platform for delivering business solutions related to product definition information and processes. This information is critical to meeting industry challenges and expanding business opportunities.
Speakers at these events include: Ed Miller, CIMdata President, who will provide an analysis of the current state of the PLM industry, with particular emphasis on trends and issues critical to suppliers of PLM technologies and services; Ken Amann, CIMdata Director of Research, who will provide an analysis of the 2004 PLM market performance in terms of growth, geographic and industry distributions, and leading suppliers in each market category; and Don Richardson, Director of Manufacturing Solutions at Microsoft Corporation, who will discuss Microsoft's Collaborative Product Development (CPD) initiative, how that supports and enables PLM environments and platforms, and the products and services they are developing to further enable business integrated PLM solutions for both small and large enterprises.
Ken Amann, CIMdata Director of Research explained, "The PLM vision encompasses the full scope of a business' full product lifecycle across its extended enterprise. But while the objective is to have PLM embedded and integrated across the full business enterprise, many current initiatives are still handled as departmental projects, or treated as independent investments, not as an integral component of an overall PLM strategy. Such disjointed approaches do not enable companies to achieve the full impact and value PLM can deliver, and are not sufficient to enable leading companies to achieve their business objectives." Mr. Amann emphasized that, "Business integrated PLM is critical for companies who want to maintain and improve their competitive position over the coming years regardless of their location or size." Evolution toward this full vision of PLM is moving rapidly as industrial companies demonstrate more and more successful examples of taking advantage of PLM, and PLM solution suppliers expand their product suites to better support their clients' requirements. "PLM solution suppliers can benefit from this evolution if they are able to deliver PLM product suites and platforms that facilitate business integrated PLM for their clients," added Mr. Amann.
What is PLM?
PLM is a strategic approach that applies a consistent set of business solutions in support of the collaborative creation, management, dissemination, and use of product definition information. It spans the extended enterprise from product concept to end-of-life-integrating people, processes, business systems, and information. Leading solution providers recognize the importance of PLM to business, and major industrial firms are already reaping significant benefits from their PLM implementations, in sectors ranging from aerospace and automotive to consumer packaged goods and petrochemical.
PLM ties together design, manufacturing, field service, purchasing, marketing, suppliers, customers, and other organizations and disciplines throughout extended intercompany supply chains. PLM allows companies to maximize their investment in resources, supply chain participants, and current and future IT technologies. It enables companies to unleash their past investments in multiple IT solutions, while maximizing their return-on-investment.
