CoWare Forges Relationships with Premier Universities in India to Accelerate Research and Development in ESL Tools and Methodologies
CoWare® Inc . announced relationships with two of India's premier universities-the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and IIT Kharagpur-to drive research and development efforts for electronic system-level (ESL) design tools and methodologies in India. As part of this relationship, both institutions will have access to the entire range of ESL tools from CoWare, support from the strong team at CoWare India Private Ltd. and inclusion in co-development projects to facilitate ESL research and adoption. CoWare will also offer ESL tool licenses to several other academic and research institutes in India through the government funded Special Manpower Development Program (SMDP) Phase II.
"The Computer Science and Engineering Department at IIT Delhi has been working on system level modeling, system synthesis and architecture design space exploration for some time now," said M. Balakrishnan, professor in the Computer Science and Engineering Department at IIT Delhi. "An advanced course on 'System-level design & modeling,' open to our M.Tech and Ph.D. students, has also been introduced in the curriculum. CoWare's tools immediately struck us as the most suitable set of tools for supporting this course. We are in the process of integrating ConvergenSC and LISATek with our curriculum so students are able to experience in the laboratory the design and analysis techniques they learn in the classroom."
"The Advanced VLSI Design Laboratory at IIT Kharagpur has been working closely with worldwide EDA leaders and semiconductor companies for the last several years, and it is exciting for us to partner with CoWare to extend the lab in the ESL space," said P.P. Chakrabarti, dean SRIC, IIT Kharagpur. "CoWare's rich toolset of SystemC and processor modeling tools will be a welcome channel for the students to learn the fundamentals of system-level modeling. We also look forward to partnering with CoWare to develop intellectual property (IP) models for system-level design."
"Rising SoC complexity, including the increasing amount of embedded software and complex interactions between hardware and software, means that companies around the world are increasingly integrating ESL design tools and methodologies as part of their flows," said Alok Kumar, managing director, CoWare India Private Ltd. "India's traditional strength in the software domain makes it a pivotal player in the emerging ESL market. And as the leader in ESL design, it is important that CoWare partner with leading Indian universities like IIT Delhi and IIT Kharagpur to encourage ESL research and development, ultimately making it easier for our customers to make the move to ESL and gain competitive advantage."
CoWare will provide licenses for its ConvergenSC system-on-chip (SoC) design tools, LISATek embedded processor design tools and SPW digital signal processing (DSP) application solution to IIT Delhi and IIT Kharagpur for use in the institutions' ESL labs. The tools will help drive research projects in the ESL domain and help prepare students for industry through expanded ESL courses in the curriculum.
Because widespread adoption of ESL also requires extensive, accurate and detailed IP models that enable designers to explore and debug their designs at the system level, CoWare will also work closely with IIT Kharagpur to co-develop SystemC IP models. With the great strides made by teaching ESL methodologies early and accelerating ESL research, CoWare is helping facilitate the move to ESL methodologies for its customers.
CoWare India Private Ltd. is a wholly owned subsidiary of CoWare, Inc. Established in January 2004, the facility-located in Noida, near New Delhi-is responsible for R&D and system-level IP model library creation for CoWare's ESL design products.
