SMB Manufacturers Go-Live With PTC PLM On Demand; Market-Leading Windchill Hosted by IBM Provides Affordable Delivery Model Mission-critical Security, Performance, and Scalability

PTC announced that small and medium business (SMB) manufacturers have gone live with PTC PLM On Demand, which is now available as a hosted service in IBM's Boulder, Colorado On Demand service center. PTC PLM On Demand is a service sold by the PTC value added reseller (VAR) community to offer Windchill, the PTC solution for product data management and collaborative project management to SMB manufacturers. PTC PLM On Demand reduces technology barriers that have traditionally kept SMB manufacturers from taking advantage of the benefits that a complete PLM solution can offer.

PTC PLM On Demand is an ideal solution for SMB manufacturers from any industry vertical and has been initially successful with Industrial, Automotive, Plastics and Consumer products companies. The service allows manufacturers to control product information, collaborate with partners, suppliers and customers on design activities, and manage the development process throughout the life of a product. Phillips & Temro Industries, a full service provider in the automotive, heavy duty truck, industrial and agricultural industries needed an enterprise-class product data management solution that provides strong change management capabilities and could be integrated with several CAD solutions.

"As an automotive supplier, the ability to work as part of an extended supply chain is critical," said Gary Edwards, CEO, Phillips & Temro Industries. "We chose PTC PLM On Demand because the solution provides us with collaboration spaces that can be managed by end-users and it helps us standardize key processes like quality management with industry specific templates such as Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)."

PTC PLM On Demand also was the selection for Phillips Plastics, a custom injection molder that provides integrated design through manufacturing services. At Phillips Plastics, cross-functional teams work closely with customers to develop innovative solutions for complex products and assemblies.

"Our communication processes will be enhanced by utilizing PTC's PLM solutions," said Kelly Stichter, vice president, business development, Phillips Plastics. "We chose PTC PLM On Demand to improve the efficiency of our collaboration process which ultimately helps us deliver superior products on time and on budget."

Santa Cruz, a privately-held producer of full-suspension bicycles, has also recently deployed PTC PLM On Demand to provide its procurement, quality control and engineering organizations with collaboration functionality. Ultimately Santa Cruz hopes that PTC PLM On Demand will help them improve management of deliverables and timelines as well as the overall lifecycle management of products.

"Santa Cruz is singularly focused on product excellence and selected PTC PLM On Demand because we realize the value that a PTC PLM solution offers but we did not want to administer an enterprise-class solution ourselves," said David Earle, director of engineering, Santa Cruz. "PTC PLM On Demand improves product data management and collaborative project management and allows engineers to work effectively from different locations."

PTC PLM On Demand includes direct integration with Pro/ENGINEER® and optional direct integrations with other major CAD packages. PTC PLM On Demand is offered by resellers of PTC solutions in a subscription model starting as low as $100 per user per month.

"Because the service has a low start-up cost, a setup measured in days, and advanced enterprise-level PLM capabilities, PTC PLM On Demand offers SMB customers all the benefits of PLM without the traditional hurdles," said Jay Muelhoefer, general manager, PLM On Demand Business, PTC. "Windchill now benefits from IBM's On Demand service center capabilities. This allows PTC to offer SMB manufacturers a market-leading PLM solution with mission-critical security, performance, and scalability in a delivery model they can afford."
