Formation Systems Joins Microsoft's Program for Collaborative Product Development

Formation Systems announced at National Manufacturing Week (McCormick Place, South Hall, booth #4811) that it has joined Microsoft's Program for Collaborative Product Development (CPD).

By joining the program, Formation Systems is demonstrating its commitment to the development and delivery of solutions that build on Microsoft's collaborative technologies-including Optiva, Formation Systems' flagship solution. Formation Systems' participation in the CPD program will help the company deliver solutions that enable process manufacturers to leverage their existing technology investments while improving the collaboration and communication required for successful product development.

Microsoft's CPD program is designed to help partners develop solutions that allow customers to speed new product development while making optimal use of investments in Microsoft productivity, project management and collaboration technologies as well as other legacy systems. The approach centers on enabling better collaboration among cross-functional team members so that projects are completed more quickly and with higher quality deliverables, while providing seamless access to information that allows for faster, better decision-making.

The CPD program addresses two critical aspects of PLM: portfolio and program management and product design and collaboration. Formation Systems' Optiva will be a key process PLM solution delivered under the CPD program, providing manufacturers with the ability to expedite the delivery of products to market and reduce costs.

"Formation Systems provides a comprehensive PLM solution for process manufacturing," said Don Richardson, director, Manufacturing Industry Unit at Microsoft. "Its expertise and technology, combined with Microsoft's collaborative technologies, enables Formation Systems to offer solutions that improve its customers' product development processes and enable them to deliver products to market faster while at the same time leveraging their existing technology investments."

Formation Systems' Optiva is process PLM software that completely integrates the development process for the whole product-package, formula and label. In addition to enabling Global 2000 businesses to accelerate product introduction, lower development costs and enhance product innovation, Optiva enables companies to develop compliant products for world markets.

"Microsoft and Formation Systems are committed to enabling manufacturers to achieve new levels of success in their product development and innovation," said Trent Landreth, CEO of Formation Systems. "By building Optiva on Microsoft technologies, we are able to deliver enriched capabilities to our customers, further ensuring their ability to develop innovative products for the global market in less time, at lower cost while significantly reducing the risks associated with new product innovation."
