Navisware Teams with Adobe to Provide Rights Management for Design Documentation and Enterprise Applications

Today at the National Design Engineering Show (NDES), Navisware-a technology company bridging computer aided design (CAD) information and enterprise intelligence-announced FileLine, its design documentation security product, will support the Adobe LiveCycle Policy Server for providing rights management capabilities to a variety of enterprise applications.

"With increased design collaboration and outsourcing, manufacturers and design professionals are becoming more and more aware of the threats and vulnerabilities inherent when sending documentation outside their organization," said Grant Williard, president of Navisware. "With FileLine, these design professionals can now collaborate securely. FileLine's support for the LiveCycle Policy Server makes digital rights management (DRM) widely available to all that need trusted communications and version control, from the smallest design firm to the largest manufacturer."

"FileLine's support of LiveCycle Policy Server fills an important need for persistently protecting intellectual property and other sensitive information beyond the network perimeter," added John Landwehr, director of security solutions and strategy at Adobe. "We are pleased to see Navisware expand this protection to a broader set of enterprise applications, helping to ensure that security is an integral part of communication, regardless of its form or destination."

The combination of FileLine and Adobe LiveCycle Policy Server expands DRM capabilities to include a wide variety of document types critical to the engineering design process, including AutoCAD, Solidworks, and Microsoft Word documents. Now, FileLine customers can use LiveCycle Policy Server to apply usage policies to engineering documents for controlling how, when, and by whom the documents can be used. LiveCycle Policy Server lets the document owner update the file with new policies as often as desired without having to redistribute the document or file.

Additionally, the document owner can easily view an activity log of how often the recipient has attempted to perform controlled actions (e.g. Save, Print, Cut/Copy/Paste, etc.). This same rights management technology ensures that version control of documents is maintained when the owner invokes immediate or date-based expiration, preventing contractors from making costly mistakes based on outdated documents or intellectual property falling into the wrong hands. Content developers can now share design information in the manner and for the time that they intended.

NDES Booth In the Adobe exhibit at NDES (Booth 3615 at McCormick Center), Navisware will demonstrate how its design documentation security works persistently throughout the technical document lifecycle. This demonstration highlights FileLine's support for LiveCycle Policy Server and will preview the protection of information in the following applications: Microsoft Word, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks. Word and AutoCAD integrations will be widely available in the fall of 2005 with additional Office and CAD integrations continuing into 2006.

FileLine Availability

FileLine's protection (Beta Version) is currently available for AutoCAD files through the FileLine ASP. FileLine clients for AutoCAD and Word documents are to be released in Fall 2005. These clients can be utilized through the FileLine ASP or for larger applications, through the LiveCycle Policy Server. Whether through the ASP or the LiveCycle Policy Server, owners can establish security and usage policies for their documents and change them as often as needed.
