PTC Aligns with Microsoft to Deliver Best-in-Class Product Lifecycle Management Solutions
PTC announced that it has joined Microsoft's Program for Collaborative Product Development (CPD). In connection with the program, PTC intends to deliver integrated solutions for the product lifecycle management (PLM) market. Microsoft's CPD program was launched in October 2004 to help manufacturers improve their ability to collaborate on product development and design data-within and outside of the organization-on a global scale. The program also helps manufacturers learn how to seamlessly access information such as digital design data, which allows for faster and better decision making to manage risk, and increase the success rate of new product development initiatives.
With nearly 20 years delivering PLM solutions to leading manufacturers worldwide, PTC helps companies create digital product representations, gain control over their product information and better collaborate with more diverse and distributed product teams throughout various stages of the product development process.
"The CPD program is designed to help companies optimize their existing technology investments while enabling enhanced integration, communication and collaboration throughout the product development lifecycle," said Bill Gerould, discrete manufacturing industry manager for Microsoft. "PTC's commitment to removing complexity, cost, and risk from PLM initiatives aligns with Microsoft's efforts to improve product development process and help customers speed time to market."
PTC currently supports the Microsoft platform with its comprehensive PLM solutions:
PTC's Pro/ENGINEER® family of design solutions are certified "Designed for Windows 2000/XP."
PTC's Windchill® family of collaboration and data management solutions, a purely Web-based solution suite, runs on Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS), Windows Server 2003, Windows 2000/XP, and Internet Explorer.
Windchill integrates with desktop productivity applications including the Microsoft Office suite and Microsoft Project with the simplicity of drag and drop interoperability.
The seamless integration between PTC's Pro/ENGINEER and Windchill solutions is enabled by embedding Microsoft's Internet Explorer technology.
PTC is working to further extend its integral PLM solutions by leveraging the Microsoft platform and more tightly integrating with Microsoft's collaboration technologies including Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Office Live Meeting, and Windows SharePoint Services.
"PTC is dedicated to helping customers realize value in their product development processes," said James Heppelmann, executive vice president and chief product officer, PTC. "Our participation in the CPD program formalizes our existing support of Microsoft technologies, and, as we align our solutions more tightly, will enable us to provide our customers with additional flexibility in choosing a total PLM solution. In fact, the operation of our integral PLM products on a Microsoft stack will enhance the simplicity and reduce the cost of ownership of the full solution."
