CoCreate's OneSpace.net 2005 Delivers High-Performance Application Sharing
CoCreate Software, Inc. announced the release of service pack 1 for OneSpace.net 2005. This recent version accelerates the performance of application sharing within engineering environments and adds envelopes for managing inter-company engineering processes.
General purpose online collaboration tools struggle with the rich graphics used in engineering applications such as CAD, CAM and CAE. As a result, the online meetings required to support the design review cycle proceed slowly-keeping global design teams at the office late into the night.
In response to product development teams' need for near real-time performance, CoCreate introduced application sharing for the demanding graphics and IT environments of engineering teams. Now, CoCreate's OneSpace.net can perform up to 15 times faster than other online collaboration tools when sharing engineering applications such as 3D CAD.
The technology behind this performance lies in a joint development effort between CoCreate and the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics, Darmstadt, Germany. Together, Fraunhofer and CoCreate have partnered their expertise to develop a technology that makes online collaboration practical for core engineering processes like the design review cycle.
The second major function new to the service pack is envelopes. Envelopes make creating, managing, and completing inter-company engineering processes easy regardless of the complexities of a manufacturer's organization or those of supply chain partners.
OneSpace.net envelopes:
• Add support for core engineering processes such as the design review cycle.
• Can be used to establish processes for an entire organization, or just for specific development teams.
• Make it easy to protect intellectual property by including only the people and data needed.
• Use automatic notification, roles and tasks so that everyone involved with the process knows exactly what to do and when to do it.
• Provide simple access to vital information such as the status of every task, sign-off and even whether affected items have been reviewed.
• Can be synchronized with Microsoft Outlook or Lotus Notes to remind even casual users of their task deadlines and other deliverables.
