Bentley to Debut DigitalPlant in Europe at Plant Engineering Life Cycle Conference 2005

Bentley Systems, Incorporated will debut its DigitalPlant solution in Europe at the new Plant Engineering Life Cycle Conference (PELC) 2005, being held April 11 in The Hague, Netherlands. PELC 2005 will bring together executives and a wide range of experts from oil, gas, and process and power industry companies from across Europe and beyond-a number of which are already taking advantage of DigitalPlant's many capabilities.

DigitalPlant is Bentley's solution for bringing together the worlds of engineering information and business information. On the business side, ERP programs from vendors such as SAP have consolidated enterprise information into a unified resource system to cut costs and increase efficiencies. To achieve this on the plant engineering and operations side, Bentley provides DigitalPlant, which connects the silos of engineering information to each other and to enterprise systems.

Only DigitalPlant gives users in the process industries:

•  Connection: Enables plant systems on the business side and operations side to connect and exchange information at a file level and component level.

•  Management: Lets users assess the impact of proposed changes, manage the distribution of change, keep all engineering data up to date, and use data at both the file and component level.

•  Query: Search and query options can retrieve and display information from any time in the plant's history, and in context.

•  Visualization: Interactive visualization capabilities include 2D schematics, diagrams, and spreadsheets; 3D models; 4D animation, adding a time dimension; and 5D, adding a dimension of cost, resources, or state of completion.

•  Design and analysis: Based on MicroStation and AutoCAD, the design and analysis tools work within DigitalPlant to create and maintain front-end engineering design, functional plant design, physical plant design, and engineering analysis.

•  Programming: Flexible programming makes it possible for other systems to be connected over time, expanding the capabilities of the backbone to deliver more value from the DigitalPlant engineering information.

Moreover, DigitalPlant meets the demanding start-up requirements for a system capable of providing all of these functions:

•  Proven technology, not untried software products with uncertain futures: Owner-operators can install DigitalPlant now and benefit now.

•  Protection of current investments: DigitalPlant preserves and extends existing investments by connecting-not replacing-all current systems and information.

•  Support of files and components: Connecting information systems properly requires the exchange and management of information at both the file and component level.

•  Management of change: Because information in plant systems is constantly changing, connecting these systems requires managing the change across them. DigitalPlant manages and processes change across all plant information systems.

DigitalPlant's benefits, including significant cost reduction and greater efficiencies, have been realized by some of the world's leading process industry companies, including BP, ChevronTexaco, ConocoPhillips, Bayer, Alcan, Bechtel, Chantier Atlantic, EDF, Jacobs, KBR, M+W Zander, WGI, Foster Wheeler, and BHP Billiton, just to name a few.

Bentley executives will be available in Booth 4 at PELC 2005 to detail DigitalPlant's many features, and will participate in the conference's afternoon Q&A panel discussion.

The PELC 2005 conference will focus on present and future challenges of plant lifecycle data management throughout the process industry supply chain. It will be attended by owner-operators; engineering, procurement and construction contractors; solutions and service providers; and consortia and industry groups. Among some of the key companies already planning to participate are Shell, ChevronTexaco, BP, Statoil, LyonellChemie, AkzoNobel, Bayer, Technip, AkerKvaerner, ABB, and Foster Wheeler.
