Synapsis Technology, Inc. to Provide American Power Conversion With EMARS for Managing Environmental Compliance

Synapsis Technology Inc. announced that American Power Conversion (APC), a provider of global, end-to-end solutions for real-time infrastructure has selected the EMARS application to support their environmental compliance management and reporting needs. Under the European Union (EU) regulations, companies like APC have less than 7 months to begin complying with the WEEE (Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment) directive and less than 18 months to comply with the RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) directive.

Utilizing the EMARS decision support application and domain expertise from Synapsis, APC will be able to manage compliance with the various exemptions and implement a set of comprehensive processes to meet the pending regulation deadlines.

EMARS will provide APC with the ability to implement a solution in a very short period of time by leveraging their existing infrastructure, as well as provide the procurement organization with an automated method to manage and track supplier data collection.

From the product design perspective, APC will also use EMARS to integrate compliance management into their design process by driving the proper selection of environmental compliant components.

"We selected EMARS because it provides a comprehensive framework for managing compliance that supports our eco-friendly product design objectives," said Jeffrey Larason, Engineering Director at APC. "Other packages we evaluated focused on producing RoHS compliance reports rather than integrating compliance information throughout the design and procurement process. We were also impressed with Synapsis Technology's environmental expertise and previous experience with enterprise-wide deployments of EMARS. According to Larason, "APC has a long standing commitment to manufacturing environmentally-safe products, and the Synapsis application will both enhance our capabilities and reduce the cost of compliance."

Andrew Wertkin, Chief Software Architect of Synapsis says "EMARS is a great fit for companies like APC because it easily integrates to existing item master systems, as well as ERP and design systems to help manage compliance for existing products and assist in the design selection to ensure future designs meet the ever changing regulations going into effect."
