Lockheed Martin Selects Pro/Engineer as Preferred MCAD Tool; PTC Wins Competitive Benchmark and Three-Year Agreement

PTC announced that Lockheed Martin's Engineering Process Improvement Center Mechanical Subcouncil has selected Pro/ENGINEER® as its preferred Mechanical Computer Aided Design (MCAD) software.

Lockheed Martin selected Pro/ENGINEER after a comprehensive benchmark of leading MCAD solutions. Among other capabilities, the benchmark analyzed breadth of product functionality, support for model-centric design, surfacing, ease-of-use, and ability to support its diverse product portfolio. For Lockheed Martin, model-centric design leverages the intelligence captured in model-based product definition throughout any portion of the enterprise where those data are needed.

Lockheed Martin's selection of Pro/ENGINEER supports its product design and simulation-based acquisition objectives by improving innovation, reducing design cycle time, and increasing productivity. Additionally, by using Pro/ENGINEER to support the ASME Y14.41 standard for Digital Product Definition Data Practices, Lockheed Martin will employ annotated 3D models. This accelerates the product development process and improves design knowledge sharing, resulting in higher quality products.

"We are extremely pleased that PTC was selected as the EPI preferred MCAD software at Lockheed Martin as a result of one of the most comprehensive competitive product benchmarks that we have ever participated in," said Dick Harrison, president and chief executive officer, PTC. "As a result of this focus and our partnership with companies like Lockheed Martin, the fundamentals of a model-centric design process have become core capabilities of the PTC product suite and provide our customers with unique advantages over their competition."

Headquartered in Bethesda, MD, Lockheed Martin employs about 130,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture and integration of advanced technology systems, products and services. The corporation reported 2004 sales of $35.5 billion.
