Mathsoft and ESRD Combine Calculation Management, FEA solutions To Enhance Performance In Engineering Organizations

Mathsoft® and Engineering Software Research and Development, Inc. (ESRD), a leader in finite element analysis (FEA) technology, announced a strategic alliance to promote integrated solutions to U.S. and allied government and military customers worldwide.

By combining analysis and calculation management capabilities, the companies will help aerospace and defense organizations work more intelligently and productively to bring better products more quickly to market.

The companies will integrate the Mathsoft Calculation Management SuiteT with ESRD's StressCheck® 7 finite element analysis solution. The integration, driven largely by key customers of both ESRD and Mathsoft in the military sector, will enable engineers to import FEA results into Mathcad® worksheets, run computations on that data, feed results back into StressCheck, and manage all resulting engineering and analysis project information across departments, functional engineering groups, suppliers, and geographically dispersed teams utilizing the Calculation Management Suite.

"There is a strong push to capture corporate knowledge and integrate advanced solution processes into a management system that enables quick retrieval and reuse of legacy analyses," said Randy Dennison, ESRD director of business development. "The Mathsoft Calculation Management Suite provides an ideal framework to join complementary technologies, closed-form solutions and finite element solutions, and in doing so we create a centralized engineering information repository that serves to increase efficiency and streamline the product development/certification process."

The Calculation Management Suite is a customizable solution for creating and centrally managing the engineering methods and values that represent product development and engineering designs. The Web-based suite lets engineers simultaneously design and document their work and centrally manage it for reuse, auditing, oversight, publishing and collaboration throughout the entire development process. The result is faster product development, higher product quality and easier compliance with regulations.

StressCheck 7 provides the most advanced FEA technology, with industry-leading accuracy and reliability delivered in an easy-to-use and fail-safe environment. StressCheck's infrastructure supports corporate requirements for standardization and automation of analysis procedures, and can be figured for use by non-specialists and teams. The integration will be available this summer.

"Design, finite element analysis, intensive mathematical calculation and calculation management are all facets of a single process-product development-that is best accomplished with fully integrated tools, rather than a series of isolated ones," said Mathsoft director of business development Lisa-Jean Clifford. "Integration streamlines the design process, reduces errors, and gives engineers more time to concentrate on innovative solutions to higher-level challenges. We look forward to a long and productive partnership with ESRD."

ESRD's flagship product, StressCheck®, has many innovative and unique capabilities including the parametric handbook and error control via automatic convergence information for any quantity of interest. StressCheck supports standardization and automation of analysis tasks through a capability referred to as "Toolkit FEA." The goal of Toolkit FEA is to make advanced CAE technology accessible to a practicing engineer in a form that minimizes the level of expertise required to use it effectively. StressCheck is the first finite element analysis tool to offer a truly safe environment for a designer or non-FEA expert, thereby enabling upfront use of FEA early in the design cycle.
