UGS Announces New Teamcenter Suite for Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul Productivity

UGS announced Teamcenter® for MRO, a new product suite that extends the value of PLM to maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) organizations. The announcement was made at MRO 2005, the world's largest conference and exhibition for the global MRO industry.

The Teamcenter® solution for MRO offers a new approach to the support and service phase of the product lifecycle, Configuration-driven MRO. Unlike traditional offerings for MRO, which focus primarily on enterprise resource planning (ERP) transactional data, Configuration-driven MRO puts the product at the center of the MRO function - bridging the gap between the logistics, maintenance and engineering communities, providing service teams with insight to what a product's configuration should be and what maintenance operations, resources and materials are necessary to maintain its effective operation.

"As our customers increasingly compete on Performance Based Logistics contracts, they constantly need to focus on accurate, up to date engineering, logistics and configuration data to feed maintenance planning and analysis tasks. Teamcenter for MRO enables them to do this, providing the first ever suite of Configuration-driven MRO solutions that integrate the engineering, logistics and maintenance worlds," said Andrew Mitchell, director of MRO Business and Development for UGS.

By providing the link between engineering and the point-of-service, Teamcenter's rich source of product knowledge helps service teams plan for optimal efficiency and productivity - such as determining what parts and materials are necessary to carry out an operation in their part of the world, what their local supply sources are and what are the valid alternates and substitutes.

With total visibility to product-related knowledge, service crews can improve performance, maintenance planners can optimize asset up-time and reduce service turnaround time, and enterprises can grow their after-sales service revenues. Teamcenter allows original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to maximize the visibility of the operational side of the product lifecycle and owners/operators to optimize the value of their operational assets.

"The Teamcenter for MRO suite is the cornerstone of UGS' strategy to deliver sustainment and in-services solutions for product lifecycle management," said Chuck Grindstaff, executive vice president of products, UGS. "Teamcenter enables unprecedented service productivity and improved asset availability, which translates into huge savings to our customers."

Open PLM Foundation Supports Mobility

With Teamcenter as the foundation, Teamcenter's suite of MRO solutions enables service organizations to operate in a heterogeneous, globally dispersed PLM environment that improves multiple maintenance, repair and overhaul processes. By managing asset information in the secure, web-accessible environment provided by Teamcenter's open PLM foundation, service teams are able to access asset knowledge at anytime from anywhere using any web-enabled device, including laptops, personal data assistants (PDAs) and wireless phones - essentially, offering mobile computing options more convenient to personnel at the point of service than traditional PCs.

Teamcenter for MRO Suite

The new product suite extends the capabilities of the initial Teamcenter offering for MRO, In-Service, which was released in 2004. The new solutions for 2005 build upon the strengths of Teamcenter for configuration, change and enterprise knowledge management in a secure global environment.

New solutions include Maintenance Planning, Maintenance Execution and Material Management.

•  In-Service provides service organizations with total visibility to an entire base of capital assets, including access to configuration knowledge that comprehensively describes each asset in its in-service or operational state.

•  Maintenance Planning enables service organizations to perform maintenance planning for capital assets ranging from components to entire fleets.

•  Maintenance Execution enables service organizations to execute an auditable maintenance process while retaining event histories that can be easily retrieved and reviewed on demand.

•  Material Management enables enterprises to track and manage all of the parts, tools and equipment inventories used to maintain, repair and overhaul their assets.
