ABAQUS Announces New DDAM Capability for Marine Design

ABAQUS, Inc. announced the availability of DDAM for ABAQUS. The new software is an add-on customization for ABAQUS that supports the Dynamic Design Analysis Method (DDAM). Developed by the U.S. Navy, the DDAM is an analytical procedure that has been used for over 30 years to help validate the design of shock-sensitive equipment and structures for naval applications. Compliance standards for DDAM analysis are maintained by the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA).

Advanced simulation for underwater explosion (UNDEX) and other structural and acoustics analyses have opened new approaches to the daunting simulation of shipboard shock response. DDAM for ABAQUS is an interactive application that allows marine engineers to perform the DDAM using ABAQUS. The software provides DDAM-specific input forms through a graphical user interface as well as specialized DDAM output data. Engineers can also use DDAM for ABAQUS in batch mode to easily repeat DDAM analysis on different models and to automate the creation of reports needed for design review.

"DDAM for ABAQUS rounds out the ABAQUS product line as a comprehensive solution for marine structural design analysis," commented Ken Short, vice president of marketing at ABAQUS, Inc. "With the help of key customers, we have created a tool focused on the needs of the DDAM practitioner that offers unprecedented ease of use when compared with traditional DDAM approaches."

As part of a wider initiative to highlight the benefits of using ABAQUS as a foundation for analysis automation projects, DDAM for ABAQUS is provided free-of-charge to ABAQUS users. Additional information on DDAM for ABAQUS may be found by visiting the web page, http://www.abaqus.com/ddam , including instructions on how ABAQUS users can download DDAM for ABAQUS.
