Advantec Upgrades to Kubotek KeyCreator to Shorten Design Cycle

Kubotek ® developer of the KeyCreatorT (formerly CADKEY®) design and manufacturing software, announced that Barrie, Ontario-based, Advantec Waterjet (Advantec) has upgraded to KeyCreator to ensure the most efficient and accurate conversion of CAD data to tool paths. Advantec, whose customers hail from industries including tool and die companies, automation shops, sign makers, artists and the aerospace industry, has purchased, installed and is currently working with Kubotek KeyCreator geometry-based design and modeling technology.

A long-time CADKEY customer, Advantec provides clients with abrasive jet or waterjet cutting services, and unlike most design tool users who generate plans in 3D, needs to generate two dimensional drawings for mapping out tool paths in the form of lines and arcs. The diversity of industries frequently finds Advantec's Rick Mortillaro, owner of Advantec, managing different source file types that do not translate well to 2D tool paths. According to Mortillaro, Kubotek's KeyCreator was the only tool that automated the ability to create 2D tool paths from a broad range of file types and in an efficient manner.

"KeyCreator's translation tool for splines, polylines and conics was exactly what we were looking for. In the waterjet industry, it is imperative that all tool paths are clear of line fragments in order to guarantee the highest quality end product," said Rick Mortillaro. "Kubotek's technology helps ensure clean lines and has reduced the amount of time it takes to clean up CAD tool paths from literally hours to minutes, which in turn helps me save time on bid requests."

"Customers like Advantec underscore the flexibility of KeyCreator, as well as Kubotek's continued commitment to the support of smaller, entrepreneurial companies," said John Wright McCullough, Product Manager at Kubotek. "KeyCreator provides our customers with true interoperability-the ability to recognize and modify models they originally received in other file formats. Its focus on geometry rather than the creation of a history tree allows it to work well with data from other CAD with data from other CAD/CAM programs."

Kubotek KeyCreator builds on the heritage of CADKEY, the first true 3D MCAD software for the desktop. KeyCreator combines both the latest in geometry-based design and modeling technology, and a legacy of success in helping customers in the design of tooling, complex machinery, fixtures, molds, dies in a multitude of product development industries including automotive, aerospace, heavy equipment, sports equipment, medical device, and many more.

The KeyCreator product line includes multidimensional design and drafting, NC programming and reverse engineering capabilities. The rapidly expanding product line features the company's unique geometry-based foundation with localized feature editing and sophisticated deformation techniques. These capabilities are particularly useful for design teams working with advanced designs of solid models because KeyCreator blends surface, solids and wireframe modeling, allowing easy modification and editing functionality.

Kubotek USA, Inc., headquartered in Marlborough, MA, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kubotek Corporation. Kubotek USA develops and manufactures KeyCreator software (formerly CADKEY) and is also responsible for sales, marketing, distribution and support for the Americas.
