Avatech Solutions' Research and Development Organization Launches Vault Access

Avatech Solutions, Inc. announced that the first shipment of Vault Access(TM) takes place today.

Vault Access is a new software product from Avatech's Research and Development organization. The product integrates with Autodesk Vault® to enable users who do not have Autodesk Computer-Aided Design products installed on their desktop to search, view and print data that resides in their Vault data management system. Vault AccessT extends the use of Autodesk Vault by enabling personnel in the manufacturing and purchasing departments to be able to share engineering data.

Autodesk Vault is an easy-to-use data management tool integrated with the Autodesk Inventor series, Autodesk Inventor Professional, AutoCAD Mechanical and AutoCAD Electrical products, and keeps track of different versions of engineering files. Vault Access is the newest addition to the full solution offering from Avatech for data management and PLM.

"Avatech recognizes the importance of data management within the design and engineering worlds, so we are creating complimentary software solutions for our customers to better utilize and leverage their existing investments and get more value out of their data," says Scotty Walsh, CEO of Avatech Solutions. "With the formation of our new Research and Development department, Avatech is committed to continuing to develop new products and solutions that are currently not available in the marketplace."

"We were storing our Inventor Drawings in the Vault, but we didn't have a good way of giving shop floor access to them," said Scott Stallings, Engineering Manager at Mestex. "Vault Access was just the solution we were looking for."

Companies that adopt Autodesk Vault data management software have a tool that maintains version control in a multi-user environment and improves design reuse by consolidating product information in one place. However, since the models and drawings now reside in the Vault, they are not accessible to downstream users that do not have CAD applications on their desktop, such as people in the purchasing and manufacturing departments. Vault Access enables this connection by allowing users to query, view and print engineering data on their desktop.

Features of Vault Access include:

•  Browsing the Vault Folder Structure

•  Interrogating the "meta-data" associated with files in the vault (including material specifications, vendor information and other data)

•  Searching for files based on properties or simply by Part Number

•  Viewing and printing Inventor and DWF files in the Vault

•  Launching external viewers for other applications (such as Office documents)

Pricing and Availability

Vault Access is available now. The stand-alone, non-network version sells for US $249 per seat and an introductory price of $149 is offered from April 25th 2005 until June 30th 2005.
