Theorem Launches World's First JT to CATIA V4 Translator at PLM World
The world's first CAD translator capable of reading design data in JT format and converting it to CATIA V4 will be launched by Theorem Solutions at the PLM World Conference; which takes place in Dallas between 2nd-6th May.
Available immediately, the new Theorem CADverter builds on the company's announcement of a JT to CATIA V5 translator at the COE show in Phoenix during March-to bring another new product to another new PLM community. In parallel, Theorem will be demonstrating a comprehensive selection of its other data translation products for UGS users alongside the new JT to CATIA V4 adapter at PLM World 2005.
JT format is widely used in UGS visualization applications that are deployed in mixed CAD environments. These, in part, have fostered the popular misconception that JT is only suitable for viewing applications and does not hold a true geometric representation. In fact, JT can hold both a tessalated and an accurate BREP form of the model. This means that the latest translators from Theorem have no difficulty in producing accurate CATIA V4 and CATIA V5 models and assemblies from detail retained in JT files.
Likewise, a leading automotive OEM within the JT Open initiative has initiated several industry projects to establish JT as a format for product data exchange-in turn creating new uses for JT within OEMs and their supply chains. The format is therefore no longer limited to use in a UGS PLM environment, or simply for visualization applications. It is now also a valid source of product data for design applications such as CATIA V5 and CATIA V4.
"Interest in JT to CAD translation has mushroomed since the announcement of our JT to CATIA V5 adapter at COE," comments Theorem's General Manager, Keith Jeacock. "Where JT is used as a means of communicating design intent, it is clear that many users have a need to translate it into either CATIA V4 or CATIA V5. We believe that this market demand will be reflected in high numbers of enquiries for our new translators at PLM World 2005."
