UGS Launches JT2Go-JT Open Edition; Introduces Microsoft-based "JT Documents"

UGS Corp. announced the availability of a new release of its widely used JT2GoT viewer solution. JT2Go-JT Open Edition introduces a new capability to author a variety of Microsoft documents with embedded JT2Go viewers called JT Documents. All users throughout the supply chain can use the new release of JT2Go to view JT Documents, while JT Open Program members will receive a key enabling them to also publish JT Documents.

The JT2Go solution, announced in November 2004, is a no-charge, 3D viewing product to enable companies to share JT data globally. Thousands of users have already downloaded JT2Go which enables viewing of the JT format, the world's most widely used lightweight 3D data format. JT2Go and JT Documents extend the value of JT to an ever-widening audience. The extra capabilities now available in JT2Go-JT Open Edition offer an added benefit to the growing membership of the JT Open Program who had significant influence in the creation of JT2Go. JT Open is a rapidly expanding initiative created by UGS and driven by global leaders to promote the development and proliferation of the JT format.

"The members of the JT Open Program represent a highly influential collection of global organizations focused on the continual enhancement of collaboration and visualization in the PLM industry," said Bruce Feldt, vice president of Open Tools, UGS. "The new JT2Go-JT Open Edition recognizes the important role these organizations play in the promotion of the 3D JT format by providing all JT Open members with access to this valuable functionality."

Microsoft-based JT Documents

The new JT Document capability in JT2Go enables users to view 3D JT data directly in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, or Excel documents with embedded JT2Go viewers. While the authoring of JT Documents is currently available only to JT Open Program members, all users can view JT Documents once they have the new release of the JT2Go solution installed.

"Delivering rich 3D product data within the context of a business application is critical for true collaboration to occur," said Don Richardson, Director, Manufacturing Industry Unit at Microsoft Corp. "Every individual associated with a product's lifecycle-whether they are an executive, administrative personnel, or a customer-can benefit from having safe and easy access to 3D product data embedded within familiar applications such as Microsoft Office or SharePoint Portal Server."

Additional functionality available as standard features in JT2Go-JT Open Edition includes basic 3D measurement and basic cross-section capabilities. These inclusions represent a significant added value to reward the members of JT Open for their continued support and participation in the program.
