Gerber Technology Launches 3D DirectT

Gerber Technology announces the launch of 3D DirectT, a software solution for the transportation interiors market that will flatten three-dimensional (3D) design models to produce two-dimensional (2D) pattern pieces. The system is easier to use than other 3D-to-2D software solutions and accelerates, streamlines and automates the 3D-to-2D pattern design process.

3D Direct reduces the need for full size physical prototypes to derive flattened material patterns. Using highly advanced computer algorithms, 3D Direct automatically flattens a 3D CAD model into the two-dimensional parts required for production, optimizing the pattern shapes for cutting. Designed to be within reach of users at any skill level, it features an intuitive, industry-oriented WindowsT interface that promotes ease of use and short training cycles. 3D Direct interfaces directly with Gerber Technology's AccuMarkT system, ensuring data integrity by eliminating the need for data conversion and also outputs industry-standard DXF files for use with Gerber's CutWorksT and other CAD systems.

3D Direct maintains the relationship between the 3D model and 2D parts allowing for quick and easy modifications in real-time. Color-coded stress visualization shows when cuts are required, reducing errors and speeding productivity in the development.

"We are excited about the introduction of 3D Direct to the marketplace. In developing this software, we focused on creating a product that would literally take days out of the development cycle and still be easy to learn and use," said Holly Beum, director, software product management. "3D Direct is a powerful tool for 3D flattening that will enable users to save time and money, and get their products to market faster."

3D Direct Highlights

•  High-speed automatic 3D flattening produces accurate 2D patterns

•  3D CAD geometry (IGES) import for optimum compatibility with CAD programs

•  Automatic or manual cut line definition on 3D shapes allows for easy modifications

•  Associative technology allows for automatic arrangement of 2D patterns for assembly arrangements and notch location.

•  Direct interface to AccuMark ensures data integrity across platform

•  Color-coded stress visualization shows where cuts are required, reducing errors

General availability is scheduled for 30 June 2005.
