CNC Software Unveils New Educational Competition

CNC Software Inc., manufacturer of Mastercam CAD/CAM software, announced a new national competition aimed at exciting students about the manufacturing industry. CNC Software's Educational Division is launching the 'Innovator of the Future' competition with the help of some industry heavy hitters.

The Innovator of the Future contest gives a student an opportunity, and helps introduce students to real world manufacturing by asking them to produce a specific part that will be judged by a special guest from the manufacturing industry. CNC Software has experienced manufacturers in as judges, and the first guest will be Boyd Coddington, of Discovery Channel's "American Hot Rod," the legendary hot-rod builder and designer. The theme for the first Innovator contest is a car wheel, and Boyd will be the honorary judge.

Here are the rules for the contest:

1. Entry must be designed and programmed with Mastercam software.

2. Entry must have a professional look and remain consistent with the theme industry standards.

3. Parts may be assembled in any manner relevant to the theme industry.

4. Documentation, photos, and an unpainted part must be shown demonstrating the process to completion.

5. Entry can be made of any material that would be acceptable to the theme industry.

6. Entry will become the property of CNC Software unless special arrangements are made.

7. The wheel should be scaled to ¼ scale

Wheel Specs: Size is 17 x 9.5"

5 on 4.75 bolt circle

Back spacing is 4.5"

The Innovator of the Future contest is open to any individual student using Mastercam, and an expert in the specific field will choose the winning part. The theme will be picked in advance, and could be anything from motorcycles to automotive to guitars. CNC Software will then find someone in that particular field to be the official judge.

The first contest is beginning in January 2005, and the hot rod part to be made is a motorcycle wheel. The deadline for submission is December 31, 2005. Three contestants will be chosen to go to the final round, then the "industry judge" will determine the final winner. All entrants will receive a Mastercam t-shirt for participating and all prizes will be awarded in March 2006 along with notification of the winners.

The winner will receive a $1,000.00 scholarship to the school of their choice. They will also have their part proudly displayed at a corporate trade show, and will be a guest of CNC Software for a day at the show to see Mastercam in action. The winning student will also get to be a "demo jock" for the day and help us with the Student Summit that takes place one day during the show. They will explain to other students in the manufacturing industry how they made their part, and share their experiences with Mastercam and manufacturing with them. The winning wheel design will be part of Boyd Coddington's wheel line.
