PDES, Inc. Tasks Theorem Solutions to Add GD&T Support to the UGS-STEP AP203 CADverter
PDES, Inc. announced it is tasking Theorem Solutions Limited to extend the UGS-STEP AP203 CADverter product to support translation of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) data. The new software will translate GD&T data from UGS' NX product to STEP Application Protocol 203 Edition 2 (AP203 E2), which is the international standard for configuration controlled 3D designs of mechanical parts and assemblies.
PDES, Inc. members state that the more open architecture of the UGS product line makes it possible for this new CADverter software to provide UGS users and their partners with increased STEP data support. The additional STEP capability in AP203 E2 allows users to capture GD&T-enhanced model data-the full model based definition. The new CADverter functionality will go beyond traditional geometry exchange for collaboration on design and digital mock-ups. It will open up new horizons for UGS NX users, initially as they work with their integrated product teams and suppliers, and later for long term preservation of model data and compliance with emerging international regulatory requirements. According to Bob Kiggans, General Manager of PDES, Inc., "Availability of this software will make it possible for UGS users to confidently translate their 3D models into the format of the ISO STEP standard. Then, through the use of STEP, these users will have the opportunity to utilize open standards for long term retention of their data and to address such needs as Process Planning, Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), Numerical Control (NC) code generation, and Inspection."
When the work is complete in the Fall of 2005, the translator will be marketed by Theorem as a component of their current UGS-STEP processor. Discounts will be available for PDES, Inc. members who wish to purchase additional licenses, and further discounts will be available for multiple licenses.
