Manitoba Transportation and Government Services Chooses Bentley Advanced Routing and Permitting System

At this year's Be Conference of more than 2,000 attendees, Bentley Systems, Incorporated announced that Manitoba Transportation and Government Services (MTGS) has selected the Advanced Routing and Permitting System (ARPS) to enhance the delivery of the Permit Services (PS) program. PS regulates the province-wide movement of oversize and overweight commercial vehicles.

The contract includes software, integration and adaptation services, training, and maintenance. The Bentley team includes Robertson Re-Directions, Inc., a local Winnipeg IT consulting firm. Under Transport Canada's Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Plan, eligible costs will be reimbursed up to 50 percent by the federal government.

"Manitoba has taken an important step as the first Canadian province to adopt ARPS," says Gabe Norona, senior vice president, Bentley Civil. "The Permit Services office can now provide its customers a uniform, automated permitting workflow that follows best practices and ensures performance compliant with MTGS standards."

TGS Compliance and Regulatory Services (CRS) branch issues permits for the movement of oversize or overweight loads under strictly controlled conditions on Manitoba's highway system. The ARPS is expected to:

•  Streamline the issuance and administration of permits

•  Facilitate the provision of even more accurate and current routing information

•  Provide more accessible services to the transport industry

•  Support on-road motor carrier compliance activities

•  Enhance road safety

•  Protect investments in infrastructure

Bentley ARPS streamlines online issuance of overweight and/or over-dimensional permits to commercial and hazmat vehicles. It ensures compliance with each state's statutes and procedures, and eases multi-state crossings. The ARPS is used for permitting and routing by the Colorado DOT, Maryland SHA, Michigan DOT, Minnesota DOT, North Carolina DOT, and South Carolina DOT. New ARPS installations are ongoing at Caltrans, the Georgia DOT, MTGS, and the Missouri DOT. Since 1990, more than 6 million permits have been issued by ARPS.
