EMC Delivers Content Addressed Storage for Midsize Enterprises-Smaller, Full-Function EMC Centera Provides Cost-Effective Fixed Content Archiving
EMC Corporation, expanded the EMC Centera family of content addressed storage (CAS) systems to address the growing fixed content archiving needs of midsize enterprises. As an extension of EMC's Making Storage Simple approach, the lower-capacity and lower-cost EMC Centera four-node configuration delivers the same advanced content and self management features available in all Centera configurations. A more attractive entry point and capacity scaled to the needs of these mid-size businesses makes the benefits of Centera available to more enterprises around the world.
The Centera four-node configuration is made possible through enhancements in Centera's currently shipping operating environment software. This enhancement, along with the new capability to rack-mount the four-node configuration in EMC or other industry-standard racks, makes this configuration ideally suited for midsize organizations that need to reduce costs and share space with existing server/storage solutions without using additional floor space.
Tom Heiser, Senior Vice President and General Manager of EMC's Centera Division, said, "Midsize enterprises and partners have been asking EMC for a solution to cost-effectively archive fixed content such as e-mail and important business records in a way that meets their requirements. With this new EMC Centera configuration we can now make managing and archiving fixed content more affordable and simpler than ever."
A key part of Making Storage Simple is a broad set of Express Solutions that are pretested and sized to meet the needs of this market. The new Centera configuration will be integrated into these solutions. For example, the EMC Express Solutions for Archiving and Express Solutions for E-mail, which combine EMC systems, software and services in easy-to-deploy, cost-effective solutions, are now available with the new Centera four-node configuration. These EMC Express Solutions further help customers reduce costs while meeting all of the challenges of managing growing e-mail and general archives. Additional bundled solutions are also being developed by independent software vendors (ISVs) using the new Centera configuration.
Lance Sedlak, Director of Marketing, Enterprise Storage at Arrow Electronics, an EMC distributor offering the new Centera configuration, said, "EMC is making it easier for our resellers to develop and offer CAS-based archiving solutions. Through its new online EMC Express Solutions Wizard, our resellers are able to quickly configure an EMC Centera solution customized to meet each customer's active archiving needs. This new configuration gives our customers a great deal of flexibility to address the archival needs of their end-users."
Jeff Bawol, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Enterprise Software and Storage Business Unit, Avnet Partner Solutions, Americas, an EMC distributor offering the new Centera solution, said, "The new EMC Centera provides an attractive opportunity for our resellers as they focus their efforts on the mid market. By leveraging Avnet's investments in innovative tools and services, such as IT DemoCentral and our storage assessment service, partners are better able to understand their customers' needs and deliver cost-effective, fixed-content solutions."
Anne MacFarland, Director of Infrastructure Architectures and Solutions at The Clipper Group, said, "With the new entry-level EMC Centera configuration, EMC has addressed the needs of enterprises with modest data capacity requirements for a fixed content solution on the same platform and with the same functionality that many large companies in the world have used to solve their fixed content and regulatory concerns."
