Tripod Data Systems Selects SofTech ProductCenter PLM

SofTech, Inc . announced that its ProductCenterT PLM (product lifecycle management) solution has been selected by Tripod Data Systems (TDS), a producer of rugged mobile computing systems. TDS conducted an evaluation of product data management and PLM solutions and selected ProductCenter PLM for several key reasons:

First, TDS found that pure document management solutions were limited; in addition to managing data, the company wanted to automate a number of business processes, such as ECO/ECN approvals, bills of materials, and others, which ProductCenterT Workflow and the ProductCenterT BOM Editor easily facilitates.

Second, TDS found ProductCenter provided all desired PLM capabilities out of the box and deployed readily for more immediate business impact.

Third, SofTech had favorable customer references, substantiating its benefit in improving product development efficiency in real world implementations.

"There was a wide array of solutions out there. A TDS project team evaluated options to find the best solution for TDS. ProductCenter suits our needs for a highly capable PLM solution that will speed up and improve our processes, now and into the future," states Alex Johnson II, TDS project manager.

Johnson adds, "TDS is evolving to paperless processes and looking at ways to streamline our product development efforts. A centralized data repository and process automation through ProductCenter will streamline information access and reuse, improve data integrity, and reduce product development cycles to enhance our customer responsiveness."

ProductCenterT SolidWorks Integrators will add an additional level of efficiency at TDS, embedding comprehensive PLM capabilities directly accessible through the SolidWorks desktop to speed product development efforts at TDS. "ProductCenter is expected to centralize, interrelate, and help TDS better manage all of our product related data, including SolidWorks files, subcontractor information, as well as corrective action reports for Quality Assurance, and even controlled accounting documents."

Tripod Data Systems (TDS) designs and manufactures hardware and software for mobile computing applications. TDS handheld computers are designed for extreme outdoor and industrial environments. With the rugged RangerT, TDS was the first manufacturer to create Windows CE-based handheld computers meeting military specifications for drops, vibration, immersion and both high and low temperature operation. In 2003 the company developed the Recon, a Windows Mobile-based handheld built to the same rugged specifications.
