Mathsoft Announces Integration of Mathcad with Bentley's MicroStation

SMathsoft® announced the integration of Mathsoft's Mathcad® and Bentley's MicroStation® software to streamline engineering calculation and design for the architectural, engineering and construction (AEC) market. The integration will enable engineers to harness results of complex calculations computed in Mathsoft's Mathcad to drive 3D designs parametrically in Bentley's MicroStation computer-aided design (CAD) software. The integration will be demonstrated during the Bentley Technology keynote address today from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Bentley's BE Conference, an annual gathering of Bentley users and their managers taking place through Thursday, May 12, in Baltimore. Demos will continue on the exhibit floor throughout the week.

The new integration capabilities allow engineers to use calculations based upon material properties and project requirements in numerous what-if scenarios. The many engineers who use MicroStation no longer need to spend time copying, pasting and transcribing between applications, and risk the related errors. For example, a common usage scenario might involve an engineer performing calculations in Mathcad to compute the dimensions of I-beam in a skyscraper. These dimensions can be automatically exported as parameters to Bentley's MicroStation, instantly updating the CAD model, allowing for computationally based parametric modeling. Users will have a dynamic link from MicroStation to the calculation that will not only indicate that a calculation exists, but also allow them to navigate to the calculation sheet from the Project Index in MicroStation. The integration is available now to users of Mathcad 12 and MicroStation V8 2004 Edition.

"Mathsoft is the first Bentley partner to take advantage of the 3D parametric modeling capabilities in MicroStation, and the integration significantly enhances the value of both solutions for architects and engineers," said Tom Anderson, vice president of platform product management at Bentley. "The driving force behind our relationship with Mathsoft is not only our common vision, but also the depth of both our organizations' penetration into the AEC markets." Joint users include the Florida Department of Transportation, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, CH2M Hill, Bechtel and URS Corp.

The integration product, is available now for Mathsoft customers to download from our site at: http://www.mathsoft.com/bentleyintegration .
