ANSYS Selected as Engineering Solution Provider at Thales Electron Devices
ANSYS, Inc. announced that Thales Electron Devices (ED), a global manufacturer of electron tubes and devices for professional applications, has selected ANSYS, Inc.'s Workbench environment as the main integration platform for computer-aided engineering (CAE) and ANSYS, Inc. as the main provider of integration services.
Thales ED chose ANSYS, Inc. as a partner in its initiative to improve its virtual prototyping process. First, they have chosen the ANSYS® WorkbenchT as the foundation for their new simulation environment. This was based upon the integration with Pro/ENGINEER for exchanging data like geometry, parameters, materials and attributes.
Next, the two companies worked together to integrate their in-house electron collector simulation code, COLLECT3D, into this new environment. The next project will be the integration of ANSYS Variational Technology (VT) into COLLECT3D to improve the performance and accuracy of their Design of Experiments (DOE) studies.
"By facilitating bi-directional communication with our CAD system and by having the ability to apply VT to access the impact of material and geometrical parameter variations, the ANSYS Workbench will significantly improve our design processes. This will enable us to improve our products and allow us to maintain our competitive edge," said M. Jean Francois David, head of numerical simulation at Thales. "The ease-of-use of the ANSYS Workbench and its modules, such as DesignModelerT and DesignXplorerT VT, will allow us to spread simulation to other Thales ED sites including Velizy, and Thonon [France] as well as ULM [Germany]."
Upon completion, Thales ED will integrate its processes and software with ANSYS software into the Workbench environment to provide a homogenous simulation platform for all of the company's analysis needs including structural, modal and electromagnetics.
"Our newly formed relationship with Thales ED demonstrates the value of the ANSYS Workbench product and how it can be used as an effective tool to drive product development," said Joseph C. Fairbanks Jr., vice president of worldwide sales and support at ANSYS, Inc. "We value our relationship with this global leader, and we will continue to look for new ways to help them be more innovative and successful."
Thales Electron Devices (Thales ED), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Thales, is the world's leading manufacturer of electron tubes and associated devices for professional applications in the civil and military sectors.
