AVEVA and Quantapoint Announce Integration of Laser Scan Data with 3D CAD
AVEVA and Quantapoint announced that they have integrated photo-realistic laser scan data from Quantapoint PRISM 3DT with AVEVA's VANTAGE Plant Design Management System (PDMS). Quantapoint PRISM 3D enables management, sharing and information extraction from as-built documentation using laser scanning. AVEVA PDMS provides the most advanced 3D design environment to the process, power and marine industries.
The new, integrated solution enables PDMS to directly access Quantapoint 3D laser modelsT through AVEVA's new VANTAGE Laser Model Interface. Quantapoint is one of the first companies to take advantage of the new, open interface technology from AVEVA. This major new capability will enable more accurate and faster design and review cycles for PDMS users by enabling them to compare and validate the CAD models against 3D laser models, better visualize proposed modifications for design and constructability reviews, and to clash-check the models to identify physical interferences, which is a major cause of rework.
According to David Wheeldon, Group Product Development Director at AVEVA, "Quantapoint is a pioneer in laser scanning, holding several technology patents and having nearly 700 projects to its credit. Closer integration between our products will provide many benefits during project execution using PDMS, such as decreased design and modeling time. AVEVA is pleased to be working with Quantapoint to the benefit of our mutual customers."
"While this integration adds to the significant value that laser scanning can bring to project execution for existing facilities, facility owner-operators are also recognizing the benefits of using the `as-built' documentation as part of a broader asset lifecycle management strategy," says Eric Hoffman, CEO of Quantapoint. "Enabling AVEVA tools-such as PDMS-to display Quantapoint's photo-realistic 3D laser models will enable our mutual customers to extract greater value from their investment in as-built laser documentationT across their enterprise."
With nearly 700 successful projects, Quantapoint as-built laser documentation provides more accurate and complete information for design, fabrication and construction decisions, including accurate dimensional fit-up, pre-fabrication and clash detection. The result is reduced costs, optimized schedules, increased quality and improved safety, with project rework being reduced by more than 80%, among other benefits.
