Liverpool University Uses PTC Technology to Drive Ready to Engineer Education

PTC announced that the University of Liverpool's Faculty of Engineering , one of the UK's leading engineering universities, has upgraded to PTC's Pro/ENGINEER® WildfireT. The University started to use Pro/ENGINEER in 2001, and with more than 600 seats deployed, it offers students the very latest engineering tools to help prepare them for their future career. It also ensures that the university stays competitive, fostering innovation via one complete engineering and design package.

Dr. Chris Sutcliffe, lecturer in engineering at the university comments, "We are particularly impressed with the way in which PTC's technology has allowed our students to train to a high level. Our aim is to provide students with the right training and skills, so that when they leave university they are 'ready to engineer' and are familiar with the tools in the market. Our 2001 decision to replace our previous CAD supplier with Pro/ENGINEER was based on the conviction that the best choice would be a CAD tool that offered seamless work between schools and universities. Since PTC's technology is widely used in schools it was the logical choice."

"We are proud to contribute to the education of the next generation of highly skilled engineers who will drive the development of innovative products and by doing this support the engineering industry to stay competitive", said Anthony Dumont, vice president and country manager for PTC in the UK.

There are currently 45 lecturers across the University's departments, encompassing manufacturing, mechanical and materials (including physics), who teach using Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire.

Based in the North-West of England, the University of Liverpool was founded in 1881. Its aim is to become a collaborative engineering hub for the surrounding area and also for the UK manufacturing industry in general, helping the country to stay competitive in a market moving towards off-shoring and outsourcing.
