FreeForm Concept v2.1-Product Enhancements Improve Modeling Capabilities And Compatibility With CAD And Other Design Packages
SensAble Technologies, Inc. announced that version 2.1 of the FreeForm® ConceptT software is now shipping. The FreeForm Concept system enables designers to use their sense of touch to rapidly transform their ideas for highly detailed, organic shapes into 3D concepts and models. Using virtual clay and digital sculpting tools, designers can rough out models, combine parts, and then apply paint, images, and other details. The FreeForm Concept v2.1 software includes several new curve-based and clay modeling tools that enable designers to create models faster, and enhanced import/export that improves compatibility with CAD and other design packages. With the v2.1 software, users can now import models or components from CAD as STL or 3D IGES curves, then use as a reference or convert to virtual clay-either in total or selected parts-to add organic shapes, details, and textures. Then use the new curve tools and export IGES curves for use in downstream processes.
FreeForm Concept version 2.1 new features and functionality include:
New Clay Modeling Tools
• . Attract Clay-interactively add clay toward the center of the tool to create raised areas
• . Spike Clay-interactively add clay toward the center of the tool to create spikes
• . Interactive Mirror-mirror the entire model to create symmetrical models and view changes
New Clay Sculpting Tools
• . Corn Dog-bevel an edge with the wave of a wand
• . Scraper-remove thin selections of clay
Additional Curve Tools
• . Split Curves
• . Join Curves
• . Mirror Curves
• . Slice Clay-create a set of connected curves by slicing clay with a plane
New Position and Select Tool
• . Select with Ball enables user to select by painting on clay; then cut/copy/paste selected clay to new or existing piece
Enhanced Import Capabilities
• . Import multiple STL files simultaneously
• . Import STL models and use as a reference or convert to virtual clay-either in total or selected parts.
• . Import 3D IGES Curves
New Export Formats
• . Export 3D IGES Curves-rebuild models in other design packages

The version 2.1 software for the FreeForm Concept system is now shipping. FreeForm Concept customers with active maintenance contracts will automatically receive the v2.1 software at no charge. The FreeForm Concept system includes the PHANTOM® OmniT haptic device and runs on Windows® XP and Windows 2000.
