Opsware Wins Network Computing's 2005 Editor's Choice Award Further Solidifying Opsware's Leadership in IT Automation
Opsware Inc. a provider of IT automation and utility computing software, announced that the Opsware Network Automation System (NAS) was named the best network device configuration management solution by Network Computing in its recent comparative review. Opsware NAS received Network Computing's Editor's Choice award based on its exceptional compliance capabilities, policy enforcement, production control, reporting, ease-of-use and architecture. Opsware NAS was the only product awarded an "A" on the review report card, outscoring all other products reviewed, including AlterPoint's DeviceAuthority solution. This is the seventh award for product excellence to date for Opsware NAS and marks the second consecutive year the product has captured first place in Network Computing's network configuration comparative review.
Judged on six criteria including configuration management, policy management, production control, reporting, ease-of-use, architecture and price, Network Computing awarded Opsware NAS the Editor's Choice with an outstanding "A" rating. The review praised Opsware NAS for "its excellent production control, configuration management, reporting, ease-of-use and architecture" and recognized it for being "awash in unique features." Further, Network Computing endorsed the technical superiority of NAS, stating that "reporting in NAS is impressive: We found everything from a network-health overview to compliance hand-holding to more inventory and system status reporting. We especially liked the unique network-status report-this graphical view gave us a quick heads up when things went awry." Network Computing's review further separates NAS from other solutions and specifically called out the product's exceptional monitoring and management of system functions, including HTTP, LDAP, memory, SMTP, syslog and TFTP services.
"Network Computing believes Opsware's Network Automation System is the best network-configuration product tested. Its feature set really excelled in production control, reporting, ease-of-use and architecture," said Bruce Boardman, executive editor at Network Computing. "Opsware NAS earned our highest recommendation as the ideal solution for IT organizations that want to improve change control and implement best practices. Its comprehensive feature set and raft of unique features, including compliance reporting, earned our Editor's Choice award."
With seven industry awards to date, including winning every comparative product review conducted, Opsware NAS is the leading network automation product, with deployments across all major vertical markets including financial services, insurance, government, defense, service providers, telecommunications, healthcare, technology and retail. The product automates IT's strategic priorities including regulatory and process compliance policies such as Sarbanes-Oxley, COBIT and ITIL and security administration. Opsware's Server Automation System combined with the award-winning Network Automation System provides IT with the most comprehensive IT automation solution available today.
"This is the second consecutive year that our network configuration technology has been named the leader in its category by Network Computing," said Eric Johnson, vice president of development at Opsware Inc. "After a thorough testing process, Network Computing recognized Opsware NAS as the technically superior solution, demonstrating how Opsware's ease-of-use, sophisticated reporting, and compliance and policy management capabilities provide unparalleled efficiencies and cost savings to customers. Winning this award further distinguishes the breakthrough features in our network automation product and solidifies our leadership in IT automation."
Network Computing's test bed was comprised of a diverse group of 100 devices in both its Syracuse, N.Y., and Green Bay, Wis., labs. The full competitive review is available in the May 26, 2005, issue of Network Computing.
