Intergraph Corporation Awards $950,000 Educational Grant to the University of Houston-Downtown
Intergraph Corporation has awarded an Educational Program Grant valued at more than $950,000 to the University of Houston-Downtown. The grant includes SmartPlant® 3D, SmartPlant Instrumentation, SmartPlant Review, SmartPlant P&ID and Plant Design System (PDS®) software. The UHD Department of Engineering Technology will use the software in its accredited technology degree programs, including Control and Instrumentation Electronics Design, Process Piping Design and Structural Analysis and Design. UHD is a longtime user of PDS in its engineering degree programs.
Prof. Nuggenhalil Nandagopal of the UHD Department of Engineering Technology, said, "Through its Educational Grant Program, Intergraph has made a significant contribution towards producing a well-educated work force. We are delighted and privileged to be a part of this program which has enabled us to incorporate state-of the-art design and engineering tools into our curriculum. The Intergraph program enhances the quality of our curriculum and attracts more students into our degree programs."
The Intergraph Process, Power & Marine Educational Grant Program closed 2004 with 13 grants totaling more than $3.8 million (U. S.) in commercial value awarded to educational institutions worldwide. Intergraph awarded the most recent grants with a total commercial value of more than $1.7 million (U. S.) to the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, Canada; FUNCEFET, Portugal; University of Western Australia; and Vidyavardhini College of Engineering, India.
The Intergraph Process, Power & Marine Educational Grant Program helps build student proficiency and experience in using engineering software. For educational institutions, the program brings advanced technology software to the classroom, expands course offerings at minimal cost and enables instructors to upgrade skills through free commercial training. The program also provides industry with qualified job candidates trained to use the popular Intergraph engineering software. Educational institutions worldwide with engineering and technical curricula associated with the process manufacturing, power generation and offshore petroleum industries are eligible to apply for grants, which have a one year, renewable term. Grant recipients under the standard program are eligible to receive SmartPlant Instrumentation, SmartPlant P&ID, SmartPlant Electrical and SmartSketch® software and maintenance; instructor training; technical installation assistance; and one complimentary registration for the Intergraph Process, Power & Marine APEX industry conference series. A program option includes PDS, SmartPlant 3D and SmartPlant Review, depending on institution curriculum and expertise.
