Marvell Implements High-Speed, High-Volume Communications Designs with Magma's Blast Create and Blast Fusion
Magma® Design Automation Inc. announced that Marvell® Technology Group Ltd., the technology leader in the development of extreme broadband communications and storage solutions, has achieved silicon success on several designs using Magma's Blast CreateT and Blast Fusion® software. Marvell selected Magma's software as an alternate synthesis and place & route flow that offered tight integration and could meet Marvell's timing, area and turnaround time requirements. With the Magma software, Marvell was able to reduce area by as much as 5 to 10 percent, resulting in increased yield and a significant die cost savings. On one of the more complex chips, Marvell was able to take the design from RTL to GDSII in just 8 weeks while meeting timing and area goals, minimizing development costs.
"To stay ahead in the highly competitive communications market, Marvell operates on a continuous cycle of innovation, and that includes adopting advanced chip design tools such as Magma's," said Pantas Sutardja, CTO and co-founder of Marvell. "In each of the designs we've implemented with Blast Create and Blast Fusion, we have consistently achieved our design goals in terms of timing, area and turnaround time."
"We are pleased that such a successful company as Marvell has leveraged the tight integration of Blast Create and Blast Fusion to reduce costs while meeting performance and time-to-market requirements," said Rajeev Madhavan, Magma chief executive officer. "Partnerships with customers like Marvell provide us with the motivation and knowledge to continue delivering innovative products."
Blast Create and Blast Fusion, the cornerstones of Magma's integrated RTL-to-GDSII system, are based on the patented FixedTimingT methodology and a unified data model. This unique technology and system architecture provide a tightly coupled logic and physical optimization flow. Magma's system determines the design's optimal timing prior to detailed physical design, then dynamically controls the size, placement and interconnects of each cell to maintain the established optimal timing. This correct-by-construction approach eliminates the need to re-synthesize to meet timing. By ensuring that each cell is sized optimally for the driven load, Magma's system is able to deliver designs that consume less power and area while meeting the timing requirement.
