Korea District Heating Engineering Company Selects Bentley PlantSpace and ProjectWise

Bentley Systems, Incorporated announced that Korea District Heating Engineering Company (KDHEC), an engineering, procurement, and construction contractor (EPC) owned by Korea District Heating Corporation (KDHC), has selected Bentley PlantSpace and ProjectWise for 3D design and project management.

The company will use PlantSpace to create and model mechanical equipment in a 3D environment for KDHC, the largest district heating company in Korea. ProjectWise will enable multisite collaboration among KDHEC project teams performing distributed engineering.

"We needed application software with a great deal of flexibility and extensibility to provide high quality services to KDHC," said Mr. KiSuk Nam, manager of KDHEC's engineering design team. "Integration of design models, project team performance and user productivity, and the future integration of operations and maintenance with the 3D model were important considerations when looking at how to extend the reach of KDHEC's business."

KDHEC asked Bentley and the other leading plant software providers for the names of clients in Korea that use their latest offerings in production applications. Bentley provided several reference sites including its largest user in the region, Korea Power Engineering Company, Ltd. (KOPEC). Korea's leading architecture and engineering firm specializing in the design, construction management, and start-up of nuclear, hydroelectric, and fossil fuel power plants, KOPEC is using Bentley PlantSpace and MicroStation in a number of its nuclear power and fossil fuel projects.

KDHEC's decision was based largely on the successful application of Bentley software, including PlantSpace, ProjectWise, and eWarehouse. On eWarehouse, Mr.Nam explained, "Our main selection criterion was the solution provider that could best support us as we broaden our business activities. We also chose Bentley because we felt that its eWarehouse was the best solution for managing digital plant data across the life of the asset, and would support operations and maintenance activities in the near future."

The Korea District Heating Corporation (KDHC) was established in 1985 to promote energy conservation, reduce environmental pollution, and improve the living conditions for the residents of Korea. A District Heating (DH) System supplies large areas, including apartment complexes, commercial and official buildings, with heat via hot water that is produced by combined heat-and-power plants (CHP) or other large-scale heat-production facilities. The KDHC plans to supply heat to 1,200,000 households by the end of 2005. Korea District Heating Engineering Company is an engineering, procurement, and construction contractor (EPC) owned by KDHC.
