YCIT Opens UGS Institute to Develop Next Generation of Automotive Engineers

UGS and YanCheng Institute of Technology (YCIT) announced a joint venture to set up an independent UGS College at the institute to integrate UGS® software into its curriculum for all undergraduate mechanics students. In support of the new institute and its expanded training goals and automotive focus, UGS is providing YCIT with an in-kind grant of UGS' NXT software and technical support with a commercial value of US $73 million.

YCIT, an authorized UGS Training Center since 1999, has already provided training on NX software for digital product development to more than 1,000 engineering and technology professionals.

"On behalf of YanCheng Institute of Technology, I want to express sincere appreciation to UGS for providing this industry leading software to our new institute," said Dr. Liu Defang, professor and deputy principal, YCIT. "Innovative development combined with extensive industry experience incorporated over several decades have made NX a comprehensive product development tool. It is not only strong in advanced design capabilities, but also provides students with experience in the latest manufacturing technology and theory. Our teaching and scientific research work will benefit significantly from using UGS software in our courses, where students and researchers will be able to develop real-world products and gain the latest knowledge of PLM processes. We expect graduating students who pass the NX Certification Examination will have numerous job opportunities in the Chinese auto industry with major OEM companies."

"UGS is honored to work with YCIT in establishing the UGS Institute," said Hans-Kurt Lübberstedt, executive vice president, Asia Pacific, UGS. "Innovation and the ability to bring the right products to market quickly are key business drivers for today's most competitive companies. This grant exemplifies UGS' commitment to the Chinese automotive industry and to the next generation of engineers who will lead the PLM transition initiatives. As the world's leading supplier of PLM software and services, we are proud to build this alliance and look forward to new opportunities to enhance the value of YCIT to Chinese industry."

UGS was recently selected as the Best PLM Vendor and one of the Top 10 Management Software Venders in China by the Chinese Foreign Trade Economic Association from over 1,000 software venders active in the China market.

The grant to YCIT is being made through UGS' Global Opportunities in Product Lifecycle Management (GO PLM) initiative. GO PLM leads the industry in the commercial value of the in-kind grants it provides - more than US$2 billion in 2004 - and brings together four complementary community involvement programs focused on academic partnership, regional productivity, youth and displaced worker development and the PACE (Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering Education) program. GO PLM provides PLM technology to over 800,000 students yearly at nearly 8,000 global institutions, where it is used at every academic level - from middle schools to graduate engineering research programs.
