Bentley Helps AE Firms Do Business With GSA
Bentley Systems, Incorporated announced that it is providing assistance to firms in the design, construction, facility management, and real property industries seeking to do business with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA). The GSA has asked firms to document by March 15 their use of building information modeling (BIM) technology based on Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) data exchange standards, and Bentley is helping them respond.
Firms responding to the GSA request for information can find templates, suggested language, and other useful material on IFC-based BIM at http://www.bentley.com/gsa . Bentley will also provide individual consultation to help firms meet the request. Firms seeking such aid should inquire by email to bim@bentley.com or contact their account manager.
Additionally, Bentley offers firms its portfolio of integrated, interoperable BIM solutions that are IFC certified. GSA has indicated that, beginning in July, the delivery of IFC-based BIM will be required for the preliminary design phase of all new fiscal year 2006 projects. Like the GSA, Bentley advocates BIM to cut the amount of time and money wasted in construction projects, increase quality of work, and improve project profitability and competitiveness.
Bentley building solutions were certified in July 2004 for their support of IFC 2x standards. Currently, Bentley building solutions are undergoing final certification for support of IFC 2x2. Certification is awarded by the International Alliance for Interoperability (IAI), which creates and publishes IFCs. As part of its commitment to interoperability and open data exchange, Bentley serves on the IAI's board of directors.
Further information on doing business with the GSA and on Bentley's building solutions is available through Bentley's "Build as One" seminar series. For seminar dates and locations, visit http://www.bentley.com/bim .
