Isuzu Selects UGS' NXT Nastran as Its Standard Solution for Finite Element Analysis

UGS announced that Isuzu Motors Limited has selected UGS' NXT Nastran software solution for advanced finite element analysis (FEA) as its core system for performing structural and vibration analysis throughout Isuzu operations, starting with its Fujisawa and Hokkaido plants in Japan.

Isuzu selected NX Nastran for all of its structural and vibration analysis of engines, powertrains and body structures for its commercial vehicles (such as buses and trucks), displacing its current legacy solution. Isuzu based its decision on its requirement to adopt a digital simulation strategy that enables the company to perform sophisticated analysis in the context of an enterprise PLM environment. Isuzu selected NX Nastran based on its large-scale analysis capabilities, advanced analysis technology and high product performance, as well as UGS' renowned technical support and product roadmap.

"We have very high hopes for NX Nastran's large-scale analysis technology and performance. Following the evaluation process, we realized that it would not only satisfy our requirements for technical support but help improve our product development processes," said Fred Homma, general manager, CAE and Systems Promotion Department, Engineering Division of Isuzu. "Isuzu, which has previously implemented UGS' NX and TeamcenterT software products, moved one step closer toward creating a comprehensive PLM environment that will enhance collaboration and operational efficiency throughout Isuzu. We are confident that it will contribute to streamlining our PLM environment."

Isuzu had previously implemented other NX digital simulation solutions to support an environment for designers to perform structural and thermal analysis on parts and assemblies. By more fully leveraging NX Nastran, Isuzu will be using consistent solver technology to meet the needs of its most sophisticated analysts as well as its integrated design analysis processes. Isuzu is also aggressively moving toward a comprehensive integration of UGST simulation solutions by utilizing NX Simulation Process Studio, which enables customers and users of all levels to easily automate repetitive digital simulation tasks while leveraging specialist knowledge and best practices. Plans are already in place at Isuzu to evaluate NX Nastran's advanced non-linear features for integration into their processes.

"We are very pleased that an industry leader such as Isuzu has chosen UGS' NX Nastran," said Haruyoshi Iida, senior vice president, Japan Operations of UGS. "NX Nastran has been increasingly recognized and adopted worldwide as the choice for high end computer-aided engineering (CAE). We are confident that Isuzu will enjoy an increased amount of benefit from implementing our integrated PLM solutions."

Founded in 1916, Isuzu Motors Limited currently manufactures heavy, medium and small-duty trucks, buses, automobile engines, construction and farming machinery engines, marine engines and generator engines. Isuzu is conducting global operations to maximize advanced diesel engine technologies and concentrate on our two core businesses, commercial vehicles and powertrains. In Japan, Isuzu is actively developing distribution solutions to support the customer in terms of both the "hardware" of commercial vehicles themselves and the software required for information systems. Overseas, development strategies are solidly in place in the fast-growing markets of China, the ASEAN region and North America. For more information, visit http://www.isuzu.co.jp/ .
