CORSA Performance Chooses SolidWorks and COSMOS Software to Design High-End Exhaust Systems That Make Sports Cars Purr

CORSA Performance Exhausts, whose patented noise cancellation technology makes cars and boats sound as good as they perform, has standardized on SolidWorks ® 3D mechanical design and COSMOS® design analysis software for all of its new auto and marine exhaust system designs.

The Berea, Ohio, company's patented Reflective Sound Cancellation (RSC) technology enhances performance sounds, reduces back pressure, and tunes out annoying droning and booming noises in performance exhaust systems for cars, trucks, SUVs, and boats. The result is an optimum balance of tone, horsepower, aesthetics, and fuel efficiency for performance enthusiasts, racers, and new car dealers. A GM-licensed supplier, CORSA also tailors systems for Daimler-Chrysler, Ford, and BMW vehicles.

CORSA chose SolidWorks software to replace the Pro/ENGINEER® software it previously used on auto projects and the AutoCAD® software it used on marine projects. "We cater to performance-oriented drivers who by nature are early adopters, so time to market is critical to our success," said Gautam Pathak, director of product development and OE sales. "SolidWorks software's ease of use, short learning curve, and integrated capability to turn out production drawings can save us as much as a week on every product we launch. With thousands of dollars of revenue at stake every day for every new product, that's significant new revenue every time we launch a new offering."

When CORSA engineers finalized a part in Pro/ENGINEER, it took "twice the work" to create a 2D CAD drawing for manufacturing, according to Pathak. CORSA is also experiencing other valuable benefits. Engineers working on marine products use SolidWorks software's 3D design capabilities to meet industry pressures to more quickly produce greater quantities of increasingly complex products. SolidWorks' PDMWorks® helps CORSA manage its burgeoning parts library and ensure versions are accurate. And SolidWorks COSMOSWorks® design analysis software lets engineers point and click to test stress, strain, and yield on exhaust joints and critical manufacturing machines.

"Exhaust design can make a significant impact on a car's performance and sound, and they both play a big role in the overall driving experience," said Bertrand Sicot, SolidWorks Corporation's vice president of North American sales. "With SolidWorks software, CORSA engineers are more quickly and accurately developing new ways to enhance the driving experience and increase profits in the process."

CORSA Performance works with authorized SolidWorks reseller FISHER/UNITECH for ongoing software training, implementation, and support.

Focusing on the development of proprietary technology, CORSA Performance employs patented Reflective Sound Cancellation technology in its performance automotive exhaust systems. CORSA's 100-percent stainless steel cat-back exhausts are specifically tuned to each vehicle to eliminate passenger cabin resonance and to produce just the right sound. CORSA offers performance exhaust systems and accessories for cars, trucks, and SUVs.
