CeBIT Novelty Direct Publishing for mySAP® PLM
At the CeBIT, SEAL Systems introduces a new method for automatic generation of manuals and documentation. On basis of the document structure in SAP, text and documentation parts are combined to a complete documentation. The distribution is done as prints or as electronic methods.
The sub-documents can be from different sources and can exist in various file formats. According to an organizational structure, which is present in a PLM or DMS system, versions and order of the partial documents is determined. The Direct Publishing process dissolves the document structure, takes out the single documents and converts them into a uniform target format. After this, the assembling process starts. Additional information, like page numbers, table of contents, headers and footers as well as bookmarks are added to the target document. Optionally further meta data and status information can be added by using stamps and water marks.
For distribution there are some more additional services. For output on CD, media fitting directory structures are built. Furthermore robot control with individual labeling print is available. For print output, modules for directory adequate segmentation and generation of banner pages and spine labels are optionally.
Direct Publishing from SEAL Systems is implemented in the new DPF technology: By using the Digital Process Factory, simple function modules (WorkingUnits) can be combined to complex function workflows. Thus, many different requirements on document generation can be configured instead of being programmed. Changes can be performed interactively with a graphical editor. Each process step is logged. The users can always get information about the state of their order.
SEAL Systems will introduce Direct Publishing at the CeBIT 2005 to the public for the first time. As a partner of SAP, SEAL Systems will exhibit in Hall 4. A special report during the SAP Forum is held on Wednesday, March 16. Customers and interested people have the possibility, to get information on technology and advantages of this innovative concept.
Reinhold Müller-Meernach, chairman sales and marketing at SEAL Systems, emphasizes the meaning of this concept: "With this product, the advantages of cross media publishing and an integrated PLM solution are combined. ERP and engineering data are laid together with the documentation parts in a uniform data basis. This simplifies maintenance and synchronization processes. With Direct Publishing in DPF technology, customers can configure volume, layout and features of the target documentation easily. Furthermore the generation process can be supervised and controlled in a simple way. Experiences of users show, that time requirements for generation of huge manuals and system documentation can be reduced by factor 10."
