Delcam’s PowerINSPECT Enables More Complex 3D Inspection

Like many other UK subcontractors, Kristek Precision Ltd. is moving away from simple projects based on drawings towards larger, more complex, 3D machining from CAD models. The purchase of a FARO PowerGAGE and Delcam’s PowerINSPECT inspection software has enabled the company to achieve quick and easy inspection of these components.

The PowerGAGE portable CMM was designed with the production floor in mind and offers extreme accuracy and flexible mounting options. The system at Kristek was supplied with two versions of PowerINSPECT; a complete system for offline programming and a simplified "player” module for use on the factory floor.

Kristek based in Melksham, Wiltshire, was formed in 1987. The company supplies high-precision, CNC-machined components to a wide range of industries and customers, including the power generation, automotive testing and analytical testing industries. With substantial investment over recent years in CNC turning and machining centres, the company is able to produce prototype and small-to-medium batch production work to very high standards and tight tolerances.

Kristek’s policy is to maintain consistent high quality in both its service levels and its products. The recent purchase of the PowerGAGE and PowerINSPECT helps in improving on its previous high standards. The combination allows users to inspect components in-situ on the machines. This alleviates the need to remove the component for checking, as was necessary when using the conventional CMM, resulting in a vast reduction of time when inspecting complex components.

In addition, PowerINSPECT also allows Kristek to inspect components machined from 3D CAD models supplied by customers. Before the purchase of the software, this would have been extremely complicated and time consuming. From the inspection results, detailed inspection reports can be produced and supplied to customers. This is much quicker than the manual reports that had to be compiled previously.
