Cooperation Agreement: ProSTEP iViP and ASD-STAN are Jointly Setting International Standards

The standardization organizations ASD-STAN (Aerospace and Defence Industries Association of Europe – Standardization) and ProSTEP iViP sealed a cooperation agreement on July 1st, 2008, Goal of this new alliance is to faster release standards on an international scale for the automobile- and aerospace industry with the support of the project group „LOTAR – Long Term Archiving and Retrieval“. LOTAR is working on long-term archiving of digital product data in the automobile- and aerospace industry in order to save this data securely for years.

“Thus we are reaching a new quality in the area of standardization “, said Gunter Lessmann, Director of ASD-STAN which is based in Brussels. “In doing so we make sure that the working results of the LOTAR-project can be transferred into standards on a European as well as international level at the same time.”

The project group LOTAR is developing a standard on long-term archiving of digital product data in the automobile- and aerospace industry under the patronage of ASD-STAN and ProSTEP iViP. At this time LOTAR is establishing methods, processes and models for the archiving of 3D-geometric data and product structure information. ASD Stan ensures that these working results are available to the aerospace industry as standard of the EN9300 series as quickly as possible. Therefore the organization co-operates with the European standardization committee CEN and American mirror organizations (Aerospace Industries Association – AIA). The LOTAR standards are very important for the aerospace industry, because they are referred to in any certification and authorization process.

About the ProSTEP iViP Association

The ProSTEP iViP Association is an international branch-specific community comprising leading companies in the automotive and aerospace industries, system vendors and research institutes. The aim of the ProSTEP iViP Association is to find solutions for the challenges facing the manufacturing industry as a result of networked collaboration in a worldwide development network.

A concept based on a coherent, cross-organizational and cross-domain view of data, processes and systems provides a solid foundation for meeting these challenges. The Association’s five main areas of focus reflect this approach: process management, system integration, product data standardization, engineering collaboration and knowledge transfer.

The ProSTEP iViP Association is headquartered in Darmstadt, Germany, and was founded in October 1993 by 38 industrial companies and a number of system vendors as part of the German STEP initiative. Members of the ProSTEP iViP Association currently include about 200 companies and organizations from 17 nations.
