Airbus Partners with MSC.Software to Deliver Composite Materials Training to Employees and Suppliers
MSC.Software announced successful completion of the first major phase of their Trans-National Composites Training (TCT) Program partnership with Airbus. The TCT program is an extensive accelerated skills project that delivers new levels of expertise and consistency in the application of composite materials. The program was designed to deliver more than 2000 graduates from Airbus employees and suppliers by the end of 2009.
Airbus introduced the TCT to promote consistent best-practice composite design methodology throughout the international Airbus community. With the objective to bring a closer coordination between design and analysis, the TCT content includes design/simulation scenarios of typical aero-structures such as cross beams, spars, and stiffened panels, together with test evaluation & correlation. Training achievement is identified by progression through five levels, from beginner and expert with typical participation being 20-30 days and involving both formal training and practical experience.

Training is of particular value with continuous skill development and consistency of practice being commonly reported as foundations for long-term competitiveness," said Amir Mobayen, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Sales and Services. "Partnered service projects such as the TCT program create mutual value, providing enhanced skills and process improvement to the Airbus workforce, while better integrating our own solutions in the Airbus methodology. The closeness of our coordination ultimately enables a better understanding and hence delivery to our customer."
Composite design and manufacturing capabilities within the aerospace sector continue to advance at an impressive rate, particularly in mainstream commercial aviation applications. For commercial airliners the strength to weight characteristics of composite construction brings significant benefits in increased range and payload, with reduced emissions; while increasingly automated design and manufacturing techniques are also delivering new levels of consistency and performance. Airbus has more than 30 years' experience in using composites technology in its aircraft, its application growing with each new product.
