LEDAS Expands Capabilities Of Free Parameterization in Google SketchUp

LEDAS Ltd. announced the availability of Driving Dimensions 0.2, the second preliminary version ofits free plugin for Google SketchUp. The plugin can bedownloaded athttp://www.DrivingDimensions.com. Itoffers parameterization tools, which considerably reduce the time required tomake changes tothe existing models and open new modeling capabilities.

The new features ofDriving Dimensions 0.2are its full compatibility with the latest version ofGoogle SketchUp 7,possibility toset new types ofdriving dimensions— binary distances and angles (inaddition tothe lengths and radii, introduced in0.1version), smart parameterization ofcylindrical surfaces, and robustness improvement working with large models. Driving distances in0.2version can beset between two arbitrary vertices, avertex and anedge, orbetween two parallel edges. Angular driving dimensions are set between two adjacent edges ofthe same face. Smart parameterization ofcylindrical surfaces maintains cylindrical shape insetting the radius ofone ofthe surface-constraining arcs (circumferences). Setting different values ofthe radii for two surface-constraining arcs (circumferences), the cylinder istransformed into acone.

“Inthe month passed since the release ofthe first preliminary version ofDriving Dimensions 0.1plugin for Google SketchUp 6,wehave seen considerable interest tothis solution bythe SketchUp users around the world,” says Dmitry Ushakov, Director, Product Management, LEDAS Ltd. «The overall number ofsuccessful downloads ofthe plugin from our site and from http://download.com has exceeded 1500; many industry experts mentioned our plugin intheir blogs; and various user communities have been actively discussing itintheir forums. All this greatly stimulates our development work and encourage ustocreate similar plug-ins for other popular systems ofgeometric modeling.»

About Driving Dimensions

Driving Dimensions are end-user applications developed byLEDAS asplugins for popular 2Dand 3Dmodeling systems toprovide advanced parameterization capabilities totheir users. Driving Dimensions are based onthe Variational Direct Modeling technology, which uses direct (history-free) editing model elements, preserving its design intent, expressed byexplicit and implicit driving dimensions (linear, angular, radial) and geometric constraints. Simultaneous satisfaction ofgeometric and dimensional constraints isachieved with LGS variational geometric solver, which isbeing developed byLEDAS since 2001and isavailable for licensing toall CAD developers.
