Eurostep to Prepare New Edition of PLCS

Eurostep Limited has received a contract from the UK Ministry of Defence to prepare a new edition of ISO 10303-239 PLCS, the Product Life Cycle Support part of STEP.This new edition will be prepared in conjunction with ISO TC84/SC4 and with the OASIS PLCS TC.

Eurostep Limited were originally contracted to lead the development of PLCS on behalf of PLCS, Inc., an international consortium of government and industry that closed down once the first edition of the standard was completed.

The aim is in preparing a new edition is tofocus on addressing the issues that have been encountered when usingthe PLCSstandard and ensuring that ISO 10303-239 is compatible with the ISO 10303 standards developed subsequent to 2005, in particular ISO 10303-233 (Systems Engineering) and ISO 10303-203 edition 2. It is intended to include relevant capabilities available now that are within the original scope, such as handling Risk.

It is hoped to have the new edition ready for April when it will be submitted to ISO for review and balloting.

The Product Life Cycle Support (PLCS) standard has been accepted by the UK Ministry of Defence as the means of providing a standard mechanism for exchanging logistics support information between MoD and Industry systems.
